New Bulk Filler Flat Top Prototype, A Never Ending Story...

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Below 2 pictures of a new prototype In "lapis lazuli" acrylic I've just finished in my shop.

Black parts are in delrin, but could also be made in hard rubber.

Note it just started raining while I was taking the pictures, so there are a few drops on the pen!

i'm rather happy with this one, and - even more important - my wife loves it ( and she has good taste !)

Comments and critique are most welcome !

Francis

Beautiful! I love your prototypes, Francis, and I can't wait to see more. :)

Currently using:Too many pens inked to list, I must cut back! :) I can guarantee there are flighters, urushi, and/or Sheaffer Vac-fillers in the mix!!!

Beautiful color - my favorite! I think your pens are wonderful and someday will order one!

Personally I would also like to see the black pieces also done in the lapis lazuli acrylic, as I'm not convinced by the black/blue combination. Not sure if that's possible?

Conid aims/needs to standardize on the parts and use as much as possible identical parts to keep the costs down.

So surely possible, but more expensive due to "not standard"

Thank you all for your nice comments !

Below 2 pictures of an alternative "non posting" version of the same pen.

I've also made a metal section for evaluation, but I'm not happy with it.

When gripping on the section the fingers slip too easy, so ergonomically not recommended in my opinion.

Looks also to much as a "kit" pen in my opinion...

I will make a section in the same material as the barrel and cap, aesthetically this might be the best.

Metal section looks lovely. Perhaps using a sterling silver section will avoid the slippage problem? My full sterling silver pens(Yard O led etc...) are very pleasant to hold and I can write with for hours, no slippage at all....

The blue color is wonderful. reminds me of my Onoto Marine blue material,(link) is it same?

In case you wish to write to me, pls use ONLY email by clicking here. I do not check PMs. Thank you.

Titanium would be another option. I have a pen with a Titanium section, and I haven't had any slipping problems with it. Titanium would also match Conid's Titanium trim.

Oh, that color!

Is this one of the smaller bulk fillers? (More details for daydreaming.)

I prefer the non-metal section and the non-posting pen. :)

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
