Honestly, if I didn't care about water-resistance, I'd be strongly tempted by this ink.

I do love this ink. Recently loaded it into my Aurora 88 after it was pointed out that blue ink is not permissible in a hospital that I work in. This is in fact a very dark purple and appears very "mysterious" on a page, as it confuses people about its identity...

I like this ink as the deep purple is just that little bit different. Great out of a fine nib as it's dark but nor black. A bonus in my opinion.

Another great point by our "Good Captain". I totally agree about it being different, though in my experience of using it through an italic was especially different..

This is also one of my favorites and one of my pens always inked with this one. Thanks, for the nice review.

Nice review. Great ink. Possibly my very most favourite ink of all (maybe). Otherwise MB's conked-out IG blue-black. But I by no means always demand a waterproofness. It's the subtlety of it all. I am -- also non-figurately speaking -- a shade monster. Like when fooling around out at the Red Sea.

oooh, I love the drawings. Great color. Thank you for the review.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Has anyone compared this ink to Private Reserve Ebony Purple? It looks very similar and I'm looking for an alternative to Ebony Purple as the one I bought has a lot of particulate matter separated out of the ink solution and it's gummy. I LOVE the color though, hence my search for something very similar.

Thanks!

Really nice ink, shame about the water resistance.

I love the look of this ink and it has some nice sheening properties. I've had some flow issues with this ink though, anyone else???

Thanks for the review. I think the deep purple undertones are very faint with this ink, and, on paper, it tends to remind me quite a bit of the now discontinued MB Midnight Blue.

I've also had flow problems and rapid dry-out of the exposed nib when paused writing in meetings. So far I've tried Eclipse with a Sailor B nib which has the emperor overfeed, so i expected a steady, juicy flow.

I have both inks. Ebony Purple is dark purple/purple-black, possibly leaning red-violet; I think of Eclipse as an almost black blue-black (possibly leaning towards the cooler side of the spectrum towards blue-violet, but I don't think "purple" when I see it). Don't remember what the water resistance is on PREP, but I liked both inks well enough to get full bottles of them; they are definitely different colors.

Thanks Ruth!

It looks like that when I look at the ink swab at Goulet Pens. I haven't yet found a replacement, but I thank you for your feedback. I love the color but I'm just afraid to use it because of all of the sediment floating around in it.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
