Pendleton Brown Is Now Carrying Scriptorium Pens!

Scriptorium Pens

Recommended Posts

I am just as thrilled as can be to announce that nibmeister Pendleton Brown is now carrying some of my custom pens! Pendleton is famous for his custom-ground Elegant Butter-Line Stub~Italic nibs and other custom nib work. I have several vintage pens with his wonderful stubs and they are among my favorites. Now my own Scriptorium pens will have nibs just as superb to write with. Right now he is carrying the Balladeer and the Scribe, two of my most popular pens.

When Pendleton contacted me, I could barely believe it. It was at once exciting and humbling to think he had chosen my pens out of all the fabulous pen makers out there. His website’s subheading is “Fun Pens and Custom Nib Work,” and my pens are certainly colorful and fun. PB is a great guy to work with, and I look forward to this collaboration. Thanks for this amazing opportunity, Pendleton!

Congratulations, Renee! I'm very happy for you. I still can't believe how quickly you went from "new lathe" to what you are producing now.

Me, either! I had a couple of really exceptional, patient, dedicated teachers to guide me, plus this has been a dream of mine for years, so I really dedicated myself to learning. And it's just plain fun to do!!!

I've been looking for a blue pen with a nice grind to round out my writing buddies...

What're the color names and the dimensions of the Balladeers that Pendleton is selling?

Right now he's got Large Balladeers in Lava Explosion #3 alumilite and in Teal Tempest acrylic. Large Balladeers have barrels that are around 14.7 at the threads and widen out to about 15.5 - 15.7 before tapering to the finial. I can of course make any other color or size and send it on to PB for your nib work. :D

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
