I somehow could never lay my hands on satisfactory examples of this pen. Recently Shrujaya informed me that Deccan had a few white ones available from their latest lot and after many efforts and trips taken by him to Deccan, i was able to get these pens for my collection. Thanks Jai.

The Masterpieces are huge pens. the White and bluish green pens are made out of some kind of resin and both are fitted with self filling Squeeze fillers.

The resin MPs measure 6 1/2 inch capped, 6 inch open, and a whopping 7 3/4 inch posted. OTOH the BHR MPs measure 6 1/4 inches capped, 5 3/4 inch open, and 7 1/2 inches posted.

Cheers!

Hari

Nice looking pens Hari. How reliable is the squeeze filler? and approximate capacity? The colored ones look like they dwarf the black MP (although from measurements not as much as the pic makes it look like) You have got some nice looking Deccans. I like that long Author you have detailed in the other thread as well. Enjoy in good health.

Thanks! :)

The major difference is in the diameters. I was feeling too lazy yesterday to take out the calipers to post the measurements. Qualitatively I feel the Deccan implementation of the squeeze filler holds a good quantity of ink.

Thanks for this, Hari. Nice looking pens! I especially like this white and the blue. Do you think Deccan will ever produce pens with nibs in any size other than medium? I don't need 18kt or anything but I'd love to see a broad or stub nib offered on some of these lovely Indian pens.

Best regards,

Richard

Dear Richard, Broad nibs or stubs look impossible at the moment. The nibs are all made in India. The minimum order quantities demanded are very huge of the order of 10,000nibs. The only grace is that nibs are quite inexpensive in such quantities but it is still a significant investment. That too, I am not sure if the couple of nib manufactures who still remain, are really equipped to manufacture seriously wide tipped nibs. It will also involve import (and again support the MOQ)of the wider tipping balls from the sole supplier in Germany....

Thanks Hari. After all the write ups and photography you are entitled to a little laziness.

Fantastic pictures!

I have the one in blue-green, but white looks better. And yes, the pens are huge, bigger than the Danitrio Densho. I was told they are made of acrylic, but it could be another type of resin.

The pen is very well-made; being constructed by hand, there are some imperfections, but they simply add to the character of the pen. I wish, though, that they had some choice regarding nibs.

Well done, Deccan.

The blue-green is a lovely colour; not quite teal, from the photos, as it seems a little lighter and with more turquoise in the mix than the teal Parkers I have. A stunning line-up.

Hyderabad is rapidly climbing up my list of destinations to visit next time I'm in India... I hear the food is not bad either!

Too many pens, too little time!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
