Tulip...I was thinking it would be more pink or yellow than red. This reminds me of a poppy flower. Bright, bright, bright!

Sheen junkie, flex nib enthusiast, and all-around lover of fountain pens...

This looks a bit too much towards the orange side of the spectrum to make me call this a true red. But it's an interesting color nonetheless.

Thanks for posting the review.

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

Don't mention poppies... that's a whole different show..! Imagine the red tulips with the black insides.. this is that red.

I apologise for the rendering of the image. I would say this is a very true red - certainly compared to the many, many reds I have. It is a lovely, playful colour.

Bhavna, thank you so much for your reviews of these Diamine Flower inks--I was impressed enough to order a set. Even though I am an amateur musician rather than a horticulturist, I like the floral inks much better than the music inks.

We should all keep in mind the late Dorothy Parker, who said, "You can lead a horticulture, but you can't make her think."

Rationalizing pen and ink purchases since 1967.

If I haven't said it lately, I love your reviews almost as much as I love getting letters from you.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

It would be interesting to see this compared to Piolot's Fuyu-Gaki (persimmon).

No contest, each is very unique and delicious in its own right. Hope you have had a chance to play with both by now.

Oh I love horticulture, but I do stick to my day job (and the plants give thanks..)! I am so happy my reviews were useful to you. Have you received your inks yet? I'd love to hear what you think! I love all the colours! Thank you for your kind comments, enjoy your inks.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
