New Resins, New Pen, And Donations

Newton Pens

Recommended Posts

I found some new resins to offer! These are pretty cool, too.

One is an ivory imitation –
Extra charge – $45 – pricey but pretty.

The other is phenollic resin – a material like you can find on another micarta type pen on the market. http://s0.wp.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif?m=1129645325g Extra charge for these? None at all. Only two colors available as far as I can see, though.

And I’m proud to share a pen I made for donation to Literacy Action of Central Arkansas.
Shine a Light on Literacy is a brilliant night to benefit Literacy Action of Central Arkansas! The 5th annual event is Thursday, September 26, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Arkansas Governor’s Mansion. You’ll enjoy food, wine or beer, a unique silent auction with offerings from local artists and authors, and great company.

The pen is made from a Japanese ebonite (also a new material that I now offer – available in yellow, red, and blue – same price as my German ebonite) and sports a medium tip, two tone nib. It will be presented with one of my new walnut pen boxes.

Finished a pen up today. :)

Clear acrylic button filler in a sort of torpedo/cigar chape.

Quite happy with how it turned out.

Shawn, let's see YOUR double-ended pen!

That almost sounds a little dirty! :D

And I was approached by a customer to do a double ended pen, but just haven't gotten to it yet. Soonish? :)

Awesome. Will be nice to see it.

Could you let us know how the Shine a Light on Literacy evening went? Nice of you to donate a pen (although I'm not surprised).

Shine a Light on Literacy...

I had never been to the Governor's Mansion, so getting there took a bit of driving around in circles. I ran into a couple of detours and dead ends and weird criss crossing roads that didn't make any sense to me, having never been in this area before. We went from boarded up and condemned and dirty liquor stores to glorious Victorian mansions, in literally the span of one block. It was mind boggling. My neighborhood is similar, but not that dramatic a contrast.

We parked around back of the mansion and followed the gate to the front entry. Guys in suits with little wires going into their ears greeted us at every door. The place was HUGE. It was more like a hotel ballroom with an old house stuck on the front.

I walked in expecting some sort of meal to be served, but it was just finger foods and wine. I should have known better. :P

Lots of music from the live band, and lots of people sort of hanging about. My wife and I walked around, kept moving, looked at all the donated items, and enjoyed a couple of brownies. My pen went for $70 in the silent auction last time I checked. I accidentally met the guy who won it, too. I was next to the pen talking to somebody about it, and he walked up and started talking to her and telling her about me! :D Then I said hi and told him I made this. He seemed to think that was pretty cool. :) The folks running the event told me my donation was one of the more unique items there. It got a lot of attention, which was awesome.

I'm glad I could help out and was able to attend the event.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
