The Airmail pen company in Mumbai, India is more famous for their ED filled pens (called as "regular" pens). They also make some piston filled pens like the 51, 52, 69 and 77.

FPN has some reviews of the 69 piston etc... I will be showing the 51 and a new model called the 77PD (Piston with design cap).

The Airmail 51:

The 51 is the flat top variant of the Airmail piston filler pen. It is not very popular locally due to the perceived fragility of a self filler. I managed to get these four examples after convincing the dealer to let go of his samples that he had preserved from a lot he sold years ago.

The pens are shown along with the grey Airmail 52 which has rounded edges and a very different clip etc...

The 51 has a textured gripping section (probably to aid students):

The cap tops:

The knobs:

The Airmail 77PD: Piston pen with Guilloche on cap:

These pens are inspired from the Monterosa pens from the 60s-70s.

Cheers!

Nice looking pens and great collection. I don't know anything about them. Can you tell a little of the history of the company and your collection.

Thank you. :)

I made a brief factory visit report with some history here: (Photos seem to be missing due to BW limitations, the quota will reset soon and you should be able to view the pics after a few days)

Thank you for another great write up with photos.  I think you are representing some of these pens companies to the world better than they are themselves.

The Airmail 51 is new to me...the 52 I have I think...the clip and the flat ends remind me of the Sheaffer No-Nonsense...

You are showing us a lot of decorative Wality caps...and the 77PD cap is unique...you have created a new desire for owning these pens...as usual...with your great sharp and detailed photographs...thanks very much...

I had purchased a Wality 52 P a month back. I swapped nibs to a medium wality nib  and I am loving the pen. The piston works flawlessly and the pen is always kept inked. It has kindled my interest in Indian pens.

I have a Wality 52P that fellow FPNer Mesu got for me, which I am very happy with. Piston works flawlessly and it holds a ton of ink. I like the slightly stubbish nib which gives me a subtle line variation.

I also have an Airmail 77RD from FPR with the design cap, very beautiful, and now thanks to you I understand that this is a regular (i.e. eyedropper filled) pen with a design cap. Thanks for explaining those codes. This pen also performs to my complete satisfaction, and I am especially happy with the cap.

Your posts are part of the cause why my collection of Indian pens is growing all out of proportion...

Keep up the good work.

I have a box full of 51,52 and 52 with gold trims! They are all wonderful pens, and are out of production. I got them thanks to my close relationship with Airmail. Hari, Mr. Nirmal tells me Mr.Raju and you were good friends.
