Organics Studios supplied a complete line up of inks for the 2013 Fade Olympics and I'm trying to get them all up. These doodle sheets will end up as part of the Fade Olympics, but are included here for your enjoyment.

 

These doodles are from a sample I had received from a fellow FPNer. My daughter inked up her Sailor 1911 Fine. The Sailor is a dry writer and she usually prefers darker inks. Gasp, she prefers black. Nevertheless, she inked up her Sailor with the Nickel. She wasn't a fan because it was too light. I inked up the glass pen, and I liked it better. The best results however came with a pen / brush.

 

The brush lays down the ink and shows off the exquisite shading and layering. The edges of the letters were marked with a highlighter filled with Diamine Aqua Lagoon and you can see the the OS Nickel is much greener. The ink is too light for me to use an a daily writer, but it will be used in my doodles.

Now this may be of course no real answer to your question but as I posted elsewhere some time ago, this colour is exactly that of the salt nickel chloride (NiCl2.6H2O) with which I worked for about 4-5 years. A cheerful light green with just a a hint of turquoise.

Well, one could be a real stickler and say that, if it is the color of nickel chloride, it should more properly be called not Nickel, but Nickel Chloride. Much confusion could be averted.

Of course, as a chemistry themed ink, many chemists don't actually work with the metal in its '0-state' oxidation, and rather in ionic form. Hence this color is that of the nickel salt, and not of the nickel metal. This is the case for Manganese, Vanadium, and Copper of our inks - not the shade of the metal, but rather their ionic color. And to the sticklers, I'd say that rather it should be properly called Nickel 2+, or Ni2+, as the ion is what is important (nickel sulfate is also this color). At any rate, keep in mind that there are many interpretations of one element - not just the common name.

Fine! Don't forget that that cation has also been referred to as Nickel(II)...

 

Seriously, since you're getting into the metal too, you might want to go all the way and consider to add a note on the box and/or label indicating that this ink is not only safe for fountain pens but also safe for nickel-allergic writers....

Well, I had a bunch of fun with this ink. I had a sample vial and I decided to us it all up (except for what's in the pen). This ink may not be for everyday use, but it's great for doodles, art and highlighting.

 

The ink seems to be very water resistant.

I took this awesome White Gold Cardstock. I started with doodles of Diamine Racing Green (Missing Pen) and Mont Blanc Irish Green.

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy.       I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off.
