Visconti Palladium Dreamtouch Nib

BillyE

Recommended Posts

I have a HomoSapiens pen with the palladium dreamtouch nib, which I love. I like to have to different pens on the go, with different colour inks in. As the Homosapiens medium only comes in one style, I'd like to get something else with the dramtouch nib, but I am not sure which pens have these nibs as standard. I seem to get different information on nibs from different sites. Anybody know which Visconti pens do come with this nib. Thanks.

You can get the Dreamtouch nib on the Michelangelo and I believe also the Wall Street in recent production. Beware however that some retailers and markets carry these pens with 14k nibs, depending on the date of manufacture.

I have a Dreamtouch on a rose-gold-bronze finish Michelangelo. To be honest, I have better nibs, it has needed some remedial work and although it is very flexible it is also quite soft and easily over-stretched. Although I like Visconti pens in general, I won't be seeking out any more Dreamtouch nibs.

If you mean THIS Michelangelo:

it's not the same 23 kt palladium Dreamtouch nib that BillyE was speaking about. Different size, different model.

I think that the Michelangelo series had a 14 Kt gold nib, small size. Maybe Visconti now changed also these gold nibs in palladium nibs, but they're not the same nib, though.

This is the Dreamtouch nib, mounted on the Homo Sapiens:

And it's mounted also on Opera Master, black Opera, Wall Street, Divina Oversize, and all the Limited Edition that used to mount a large size 18 Kt gold nib.

Other pens mount a small size nib, that could be steel (Rembrandt, new Van Gogh) or gold (Michelangelo, Ragtime 20th Anniversary).

Thank you for stating that Susanna - I am aware that the Michelangelo nib is smaller than the Homo sapiens (not sure about the medium sized HS) but i was referring to the fact that it is a Dreamtouch nib. Size isn't everything! I think the Michelangelo is what we would refer to as a size 5 whereas the HS is a size 6.

The same comment about double checking the nib material remains true however, some of the Opera Master Black pens have an 18k nib I believe, rather than a Dreamtouch. Although they are genrally pleasant nibs, I am still not convinced that the palladium nib is actually superior to 14k or 18k gold. Evidently, Visconti are in the process of transferring the gold nib designs to palladium, not necessarily because it is a superior material (although its not bad), but because of market differentiation and cost savings.

In the current UK market, van Gogh/Rembrandt/Salvador Dali are all steel nibs. Again the original van Gogh Maxis had a 14k gold nib.

  • 1 year later...

I recently obtained a Visconti Michelangelo, including a Dreamtouch 23kt Palladium nib, acutally two nibs, one Medium, one Fine. All in all, the nibs are slightly disappointing. Frequent skipping, and drying up. After some tinkering, it got somewhat better, but the "Dreamtouch" label is certainly a misnomber in my experience.

Pretty much all pens north of the Rembrandt and Van Gogh have a 23kt Palladium dream touch. Some Michelangelo do, some don't. There are #5 and 6 sized, single tone, two tone, rose gold, and black plated dreamtouch as well.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
