My Pilot Silvern " Stone Pavement "

Recommended Posts

I bought this pen about a month back, as new old stock from a Japanese dealer. I bought it since the pen came with a stock yellow gold nib as compared to the rhodium plated nibs supplied nowadays.

I have nothing really to add after the wonderful review of the same pen by Jopen in Nov 2008. Here is the link.

I will add my pictures:

Look at the way they have ground that Fine point from a big ball of Iridium, wonderful...

My pen came with the CON-LAS (bigger CON-20) converter.

I have the same pen (albeit with the rhodium plated nib) myself. It is a beautiful pen. I envy your photography. I have several beautiful pens that I'd like to share but my photography never does them justice. I'm very tempted by the silver Mt Fuji and Wave. How about you?

Thank you kindly, Faisel. :)

Pls do share pics of your beautiful pens. I, and I am sure many other FPNers like to see real world pics.

I would love to have the Geisha and the Jaguar, preferably the old style ones with the flat clip.

Best

Hari

I've wanted that model since I first saw it (but I very much doubt I'll ever be able to afford it). Gorgeous (although I prefer the other two patterns over this one). The new nib colour does clash with the rest of the pen though, I wonder why the changed it.

Thanks Aramchek, I agree. I have a few older Japanese market Pilot silverns with the flat clip and sometimes gold plated clip even and a few of the American market Namiki marked Silvern pens. I love the yellow nib to Silver body contrast, looks very classy in my view. But many others seem to dislike yellow gold so maybe Pilot bowed to their vocal feedback...

Thank you Rokurinpapa. :)

The yellow gold nib on my pen is 14K. The Rhodinated modern nibs are 18K.

I'm a bit embarrased  I misread what you wrote and thought they changed from rhodium plated to gold so it is actually the rhodium plated version I prefer on this particular model...

Sleep deprivation and doing things are not a good combo.

(Seems the board software / the servers / the NSA / my ISP didn't want me to make this post, it was slow and I had to retry.)

Beautiful pen, Hari! I agree on the gold + silver combination - it looks fantastic. At some point, I'd like to own one of each of the pens in this series.

Currently using:Too many pens inked to list, I must cut back! :) I can guarantee there are flighters, urushi, and/or Sheaffer Vac-fillers in the mix!!!

Beautiful pen and pics Hari. I love the contrast of the gold nib to silver body and the Stone pattern is so raw. This is hopefully my next pen whenever that may be. The Pilot people are exceptional craftsmen.

very nice pen  congrats and happy writing

Pens are like watches , once you start a collection, you can hardly go back. And pens like all fine luxury items do improve with time

Thanks so much Pelman. The pics of your Pilot silvern actually prompted me to look for my modern example.

The newer ones are bigger than the older ones, I must do a comparison review sometime...

Hari, check out the Pilot Kawarinuru Ishime pens. They seem to have a finish that is quite similar to this, actually (although the nib is a traditional one).

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
