After much saving, several sold pens, and a lot of wringing my hands with indecision...I've done it. I just plunked down the most (by far) I've ever paid for a pen.

A Homo Sapiens Bronze age Medium nib. Now it's in Bryant's hands, for my least favorite part of the process...the waiting.

Just over the last 2 days I've spent hours deciding between Bronze or Steel, Medium nib or stub. I finally went with medium because if I'm spending that much on a pen, I don't want to ALWAYS HAVE to write with a stub.

Congrats on your purchase. I've ogled that pen, but there's no way I'd be dropping that kind of cash for at least 5-10 years.

Hope you're satisfied with it when it comes. Any pen that fulfills you in that way is worth the wait.

Congrats on your purchase! Hope the wait is not too stressful, I love mine. They do write a bit wet and wide so for every day writing the Med would be better than the stub. I got mine in a fine nib.

Congratulations on your pen! I don't know what kind of wait you're talking about, but I remember when I ordered my one Nakaya, I would try my best not to obsess about it. I obsessed about it anyway. :)

Well, I bought it from Bryant, and the previous 2 pens I got from him took 2 days. So I might have it Saturday...if not, then Monday. Not a huge wait, but when you drop that kind of coin on a toy, I want it NOW. ;)

I have the HS Bronze with a medium nib. I love this pen, though I typically write either with XF/F or CI nibs. The medium nib is wet and a delight to use. Some people say these nibs are flexy, but I strongly advise against flexing them. They're somewhat soft-feeling, but definitely not suitable for flexing :)

The wait was short. My Homo Sapiens got here today.

Which begs the question, if Bryant sells the pen, why would I ever go anywhere else. His prices and service are amazing.

Good luck with your new pen! I bought a HS Bronze with a F nib from Bryant, and i agree with the excellent service and prices. Now the real question--what ink will you use in such a great pen? I like to use deep blues and blue-blacks that seem to match the volcanic material.

Kon-Peki was the first to go into it, because I've been using it a lot recently, so it's good for a direct comparison. After that, I think I'll try to pick an ink that could serve as magma. A deep reddish orange, maybe.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
