Which Ancora Pen Is This?

Paul Raposo

Hey all.

Someone offered me this Ancora, but knowing nothing about these pens, and not turning up anything online, I was hoping to get some info about it here. It has the inner hardbox and paperwork.

It's the pearl and orange pen in the left of the pic:

Does anyone remember the retail price when these pens were originally sold?

I need a bit more help with this Siena.

The owner has decided he wants me to do a consignment sale, (he felt my buy offer was too low.) He wants to price it at $1000. I can't find any historical sales for this pen, but I'm feeling like that is priced too high. I'm leaning more towards $500-$600.

Any opinions on this?

Yup, the ones I have seen for sale have been in the $400-600.00 range. There was one on zoss about a year ago IIRC and it was under 600.00 but didn't sell.

The last one of these I saw for sale had a chunk out of the MOP and was still priced high in my view ($600.) I questioned the high price (considering the damage) but then wondered if it was a common failing in the model and if the price was "normal" under the circumstances.

Interesting point, Strang about a possible weakness of the MOP. The one I was presented with in in excellent condition, but frankly was not used. If it was a daily pen, could that make a difference? I would think the vac fill system would be the first thing to go on these pens.

Just a guess, but it looked like it had a plunger-fill system.

  • 1 year later...

Hey all.

It's been over a year since I started this thread, and everyone helped ID this pen.

I ended up buying the pen today at a very good price. Now the only problem is I don't want to sell it

I'll post some pics later today, or Saturday.

Your original pic is gone, so photos would be nice. What nib? I'm not selling my Ancoras, especially the stubs. Those nibs are simply too good to part with! :puddle:

Hey Ghost Plane.

Sadly this pen only has a medium nib. Working on the pictures and will hopefully have them up Saturday morning.

Great purchase indeed

Pens are like watches , once you start a collection, you can hardly go back. And pens like all fine luxury items do improve with time

Thank you, Georges :)

I look forward to seeing them. B)

Here you go, Ghost Plane

Got some pictures taken and even though they're not as beautiful as I would like, (I have a lousy eye for art,) I think they show the pens details nicely.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
