Would you risk this.

What model is it. If a Man 100 maybe, if an Expert perhaps not.

When I was a kid we would have called that a "pig in a poke". I would not risk the cost of the postage on it.

Also there is a contradiction between the description of "used" and "in a box never been opened".

Nice box. I guess he didn't want to spoil the "never opened."

My recollection is..........many many years ago we had a raffle after a Xmas clay shoot. If was bring a present take home a present. On the table were numerous items but mainly shooting related except one item, a white envelope. Each member had a ticket number which was duplicated in the hat. When your number was called you went forward and picked an item. Nobody selected that envelope until the last number who had to have it. Everyone laughed until it was opened and out pulled a nice new crisp £10 note. That was when I was earning maybe £100 a week and £10 was a lot of dosh.

How can you tell it is a nice box? Do you have xray vision?

That size and shape of box, my guess is a ballpoint. By the script, or font, that I can see shadows of, my guess is a Man Revolution Bicentennial.

I'm not $200 worth of curious.

I'd say the seller is cheeky asking that much sight unseen, unless he/she was the original purchaser and knows exactly with is in the box because he/she stood in the shop and watched it being put in the box and wrapped.

Well, I guess I am kind of cautiously $200 curious. I wrote the vendor that I would buy it on the condition that they take a return, including shipping, of an opened box pen if it isn't a Revolution fountain pen. Maybe we'll find out.

The box looks nice. Recently I was perusing an ebay ad for a Cross Townsend. Capped. I asked the seller if it had a nib. He had forgotten to show it.

Send for SuperForce.....

This item may have been previously used and could show some signs of cosmetic wear....

Yeah, but I would not want it without the cables.....

A not cheap lucky dip with $55+ P&P.

I've been known to take a chance, but this is too scary for me!

The set is exactly new, was the reply to my query on this Exclusive pair of pens.

But there is something missing...can you spot it.

Ink stains on the section?

All I can see is that looks different in pic # 3 than in 4 and 5, but I'm not familiar enough with the model to say what's wrong. Is there a gold band that is missing entirely?

Yes, a completely missing band between section and barrel. And I'm probably wrong about this- but I think when the Executive was new, especially in this style box, they were still using the metal converter.

Metal converter? Do you mean the converter with the metal collar?

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
