A Chuckle A Day

I said I was guessing. From the shape I would say it was a fountainpen. and a Phileas or Kultur. Judging this pic is something like looking at X-ray photos.

The discernible features point to Phileas rather than Kultur.

And yes Force, the colour could be blue also.

Sometimes you get a good buy on items like these as many pepole would skip this item ...

You must be seeing images I am not. There is nothing discernible as a pen in the two pics I see. It looks like a box and some cartridges lying around it.

In the first pix, aren't you seeing a uncaped pen ? ...

I do agree with D.ick : it looks like a Phileas.

I agree with D.ick that it's a Phileas (3 bands) and states Bluish in the description. Some might see Black as Blue so we are not 100% on colour....yet.

Oh yes now I see, when I magnify it.

Ahhh Maestro

plus,

Good condition ?

The seller is adamant there is nothing wrong with the pen and that the gold ring should NOT remain attached to the section. The silver and gold plate look in poor condition...but they are close shots.

I do like these 'rollerballs' but the seller has the reserve set at £180 :o and has been told by an 'expert' that it could sell for £260 :yikes:

Perhaps he/she should sell it to the 'expert' for £180, making a good sum and then let the 'expert' sell it for £260 making them a lump

The sellers pen track record does not bode well though, 2 Waterman pens and both with feedback comments.

I bought this Man 2 roller for $64 shipped. A good deal, but not a great one. The next day the seller requested a cancellation, saying it was meant to list for $399 (buy it now for $520?).

I wrote back asking if perhaps it was a different pen they might have listed for $399? And if it was indeed this roller, that I have a couple in green I'd be happy to sell them for $133 each - they could triple their money!

I haven't heard back on my offer.

Haven't you ever fallen asleep (more than once) with your finger on a key, while typing up your auction information???????? It could happen........

I may be a tad colour blind, but afaik this picture is not of a red pen.....

And new in box usually means the original box....

Not the colour D.ick, look at the section...it appears to be from an Expert.

If you think that creating and selling pens that are not as advertised is a recent idea....

This is my newest vintage Waterman eyedropper that I got for $50. The seller said the cap fit snugly (how can it with the bottom 1/2 inch broken off? Now looking for a replacement "lid"), and the nib was original as well as it said 15 on the butt of the barrel.

How could it be a 15 with the two smooth gold bands on the barrel. They were probably added when the pen was pretty new, because the crud around the edge looks to have been there for a very long time.

The nib is a Waterman #5 with flex and the pen works. The nib is missing a little piece from the tip of one tine, so I'm going to see if I can make it an italic with flex, or at least file out the uneven tine. I don't think these old nibs had much tipping material to begin with, so I won't be doing any harm while practicing on this nib.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
