If you buy that, it's a closed deal.

This is a Graduate missing from my collection and I have sent three messages to determine the nib size. Not that I really care what it is but just to see if the seller, as a new ebayer, answers questions. I have had no replies to date. So this morning I messaged them telling them their listing error...for the hell of it maybe.

A rare opportunity. Too bad they don't post to USA.

I haven't seen one like that before. Too bad I haven't used a pen since my last day of work last Friday.

A 1st generation Gentleman prototype?

Force:

Is that catalog from 1983?

You don't happen to have any like that from the mid-1970s, do you, or know where I can get one? I'd like to find one from 1975 and 1980, if I can.

Also, I'll have to check, but the converter I got with my Royal Jordanian Gentleman looks very much like the all plastic one, except that it is all metal.

And, finally, I think I have seen my Grail Pen! The Man 100 Prestige #16014!! To me it looks like it's white lacquer, but the description seems to say that it is sterling silver. I'm in love!

It's 1987 as shown on the price list. I have the Tortoiseshell Executive 17079 which was given to me in 1986.

Sorry I only have much later catalogues. Maybe Damien or Nathalie can help.

Please post a pic of the converter.

The Prestige shown is described as sterling silver.

I was wrong, the converter has a plastic plunger. Note the funky 1960s style lettering imprinted on the plunger.

That's a 56002 metal converter as shown on the same page.

Sorry, I have no more catalogs.

The 16014 is the Man 100 Solid Sterling Silver, smooth finish. Matte when it is new without yet contact with skin, then glossy when used.

A ballpoint New (no pic of FP!)

A FP already glossy:

Oh, I am so in love with that pen, it hurts, deeply. It's like one of my beloved Gentlemen on steroids. The silver. The gold. Wow!

As far as my converter goes, it feels much older than 1987, mainly because of the text style, reminds me of the "mod" writing of the 1960-1970s with all the curves and rounded edges. I think I will not be using any of my iron gall inks in it.

Thank you for your info.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
