Gfeller Do It Again - A4 & A5 Covers

I am now the proud owner of a gfeller leather cover for my A4 Clairefontaine spiral notebook. I also recently had a few made for the A5 wire bound version of same. This is the essentials plain cover model. As usual gfeller were fantastic to deal with and the cover exactly what you expect from a company who bases everything they do on quality and customer satisfaction.

Just thought I would let you know they now have templates for those two notebooks if you have a need.

I have suggested to gfeller that they add a list of made to order covers like mine to their website so people know what else is now available. Hope they do it.

Gfeller are just a fantastic bunch of people to deal with.

I've been using this for a couple of weeks now and it is a great cover. This is the first I have in this larger size (A4) and the leather feels a little softer in a larger piece - obviously an illusion but it does seem that way.

I'm convinced! Approximately how long does a customized order take? I'm interested in one for the Tsubame 200 sheet notebooks. Can Gfeller work from dimensions or does the notebook need to be in hand?

Not sure about custom measurements. I send them a notebook or order one for delivery to them. Email them and ask. They are very obliging. Do0n't be put off by the time it takes to mail them a notebook and await the covers etc. The covers are for life so they are worth the wait.

Great suggestion, thanks! Time is not really an issue. It's more of a worry about what I'll do to an "unprotected" notebook in the meantime. I'm one of those that hates marring up a book or paper of any kind.

There is a rough chance they may have already done one for the notebook you have - email them and ask.

I just had them modify an existing design to add a pen loop and my expected wait time is about two weeks. Not bad at all.

You won't regret it.

Huh...they're right around the corner from my house and I never knew it! I'll be visiting them shortly.

I don't imagine they have a presence like Walmart. They are fabulous people to deal with.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
