The New Wahl-Eversharp Skylines Answers

This being the Wahl-Eversharp forum, many posts were made here in the past few months about the new WAHL-EVERSHARP SKYLINE pens. With the advent of the new posting format at FPN, and in keeping with same posting answers to the many questions posed earlier went unanswered or were answered in posts to the selling fora. Because of so many personal messages still flying about these topics, and because they are more related to features of the pens rather than selling of the pens, in retrospect it seems easier and appropriate to recap the most common questions about the pens. For those who missed some of the back and forth on them they are assembled/paraphrased below:

What the heck are the Skyline Ceramic Coated Nibs? The Ceramic Coated nibs are the only such nibs in the world (TBOOK) that have this feature. The Ceramic Coating is an extremely durable high-temp spray ceramic application that creates a mirror smooth writing nib surface. First hand comparison tests at pen shows and on line videos demonstrate the truth of the claims made for it, but because it is thin and clear, people look for some outward evidence of it being there. True, you can not see it wit the naked eye or loupe, but it's there...I'm afraid the only sensory proof is in the writing. Thats why at pen shows we put out a demonstrator all day long for people to play with.

What's so different about the new W-E feed? Well it's not just the feed...its the rebirth of WAHL/EVERSHARP Personal Point originated interchangeable nib/feed assembly of 1928 but with a new internal construction. These assemblies and feeds are another modern computer aided improvements of our own exclusive manufacture. The WAHL-EVERSHARP feeds made today are far superior to those on the vintage Skylines. With flow channels that can supply adequate ink for our true semi-flex nib. The On-Line/You Tube reviews of the ink flow proved how difficult it was to get these pens to railroad track. Now you know why. Airplane carry of a vintage Skyline? Risky. The new ink flow management system on the new pens really deserve the Skyline name..they just don't mess up.

Are there Fine Medium and Broad nibs for these pens. No, Not Yet, and usually not without some special custom ordering. We simply have a lot riding on the one size fits most philosophy necessitated by econimics of minimum order quantities for each nib width. With a minimum of 3000 units per nib run, we decided to start of with the f-m Semiflex.

Can a nib-meister grind a Ceramic Coated nib to suit my desires? Not without violating the integrity of the ceramic coating. Of course onece one decides to do a grind, it may be possible to get a custom finish by the nibmeister that will for a time rival the original nib...and you still have the semi-flex.

One poster was miffed that they had to pay VAT on pens we send to Europe from the USA which according to them pushed the total investment in the pen too high. In April we instituted the Intra-EU delivery system which cause me to leave a few hundred pens laying in inventory in Europe just to satisfy that request. The pens are shipped from France or Italy to customers who live in the EU and request it.

Another poster was sure that the decorative gift boxes were an unnecessary extra cost feature that drives up price. Well not that much, but we agreed to send pens without boxes at a slight savings to solve that problem.

I recognize that given the newer rules about posting here or there these days, has kept me from answering such questions for fear of commercialism in the forum, and that the above may prove to be somewhat self-serving in the eyes of some, but not doing it seems to cut off the interested forum reader from the latest news about their favorite pens. And after all it is WAHL-EVERSHARP forum and this topic is news worthy and the new line is a real unusual occurrence for any forum.

...Well, that may be enough for now. Hope this recap gets to all those who were interested in the answers, bur may have missed the before.

Thanks Syn for the information. =] I am really tempted to buy a modern skyline now =P I watched a few review of this pen but no one really explain the coating to me haha.

I also want to ask: Will you guys consider to make the other model of eversharp as well, e.g. Doric and other model?

I have two of the new WAHL-EVERSHARP SKYLINE pens, which I really enjoy; so, I want to thank you for the report and look forward to hearing more about these pens and your company. Personally, I like the boxes, which add a lot to the total value of the pen for me, but I do keep all of my pens in the original boxes when I am not using them. :-)

All the best,

T

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
