Hae You Guys Tried The Roaring Spring Environotes Sugarcane Filler Paper? Its Very Good...for Now.

Hi,

Has anyone tried this paper before? Its exceptional. Its made from sugarcane fibers, very smooth, thin(not thick like Rhodia and Clairefontaine), and Made in the USA(if you care about things like that). None of my inks bleed through. Inks such as Noodlers, Pelikan, Parker, and many more.

There is some bleed through on my Rhodias and Clairefontaines often with a certain pen, but never on the environotes sugarcane paper.

There is some show through, but its not bad. Better than Staples sugarcane paper though, and much better paper overall when compared to it.

Some of my writing looks thinner when I write on the environotes sugarcane paper while thicker on the Rhodia/Clairefontaine. :D

And colors look nicer. :D

The environotes sugarcane composition notebooks and spirals are not the same as this loose leaf version. They have a rougher surface.

Yet, I notice that the quality has gone down and the paper is starting to resemble regular loose leaf paper so its starting to become a tad rougher and thicker. It was much thinner about 8 months ago and it was much, much better. It made Rhodia and Clairefontaine look like a joke (to me). I could use any color. Any ink, no matter the saturation, would dry in a few seconds.

So...even though the quality has gone down, its still the best loose leaf paper that I have ever tried and I have tried a lot, BELIEVE ME. The receipts and my bank statements do not lie. So it puzzles me why I do not hear about this paper here. It should be one of the paper products that is recommended quite a bit.

It costs around $6 for 170 sheets that are 11 by 8 1/2. Its getting up there in price, but it is worth it for now. It WAS completely worth it 8 months ago.

I just bought some loose leaf from the Portland Community College bookstore while visiting there for a workshop. Excellent filler paper with little show through. I am being environmentally friendly AND have some nice paper to use for my document camera presentations.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
