Aaaaah mannnnn! Another ink to add to my "to buy" list. Thanks! :D

My list is getting out of hand.

Great review and it's uncanny - I've just started using this again. I've recently got a Pilot Custom 823 which has a Fine nib - much finer that I'm used to and I find that it needs dark inks to really make the thin lines properly visible. So I think I've found a real use for the Eclipse and maybe next in line will be their Denim.

Denim is one of my favorites. Not as dark as Eclipse base on the scans above.

Thanks for the review. They are all so useful, I really must put something back and do one myself.

Another coincidence, I just got a small bottle to try. Finally a black ink I like!

I always think black looks too severe but Eclipse with its purple undertones avoids that and seems a little more approachable. What finally decided me to try it was someone (I'm sure on FPN) described it as "the black that is not black" and I thought - Ah, just the thing for when some officious person insists a form must be in black ink!

And the lubrication, like writing with oil. At least, I guess that if I ever dipped my nib into some 3-in-1 this is what it might feel like.

What he said! It is now my favourite ink and I must soon reorder some. It is a black that is never grayish and never too severely black. My Aurora nib glides across pages like sliding on black ice. I even like the smell. It is the perfect ink for me in my journals. I prefer it over Parkers Black Quink and Edelstein Onyx. If I must use pure black, it will be Aurora Black ink.

Cheers

This is an ink I'm looking forward to trying. I have Damson, but find it fades too much. Eclipse might be just what I'm looking for.

Not to hijack the thread, but I'm wondering how you're enjoying the 823? Seems like a well-loved pen by many here.

I'm enjoying all your reviews, especially as you're using a pen I intend to get for myself in the near future. :)

A great pen and briefly, fine though the nib is, I get by as a dark ink like Eclipse of Denim really helps produce something with a bit of character. I even remember to undo the filler cap a couple of mm before use!

You should also have a look at P.W. Akkerman Voorhout Violet. It's purple/black mix that falls somewhere between Damson and Eclipse.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
