Vintage and modern CS100 are fabulous pens.

They are indeed, is yours a piston filled pen?

Pens are like watches , once you start a collection, you can hardly go back. And pens like all fine luxury items do improve with time

Yes!! I was going crazy looking for the last run of Model 100 a couple months ago, which is completely sold out...though I have little hope the prices will be any lower this time (they were quite high, ~$500, as far as I can remember). On a side note, I don't understand why CS can't make the rollerballs at least cheaper than the FPs, like most companies...

A $500 MSRP (with many dealers presumably offering significant discounts) is actually a pretty good price for a new pen with a large 18K gold nib. Less expensive (new) pens mostly come with either smaller nibs, or (far less expensive) steel or titanium nibs.

I see, well it is on the expensive side for me, especially when vintage Cs can be had for much less, but that's good to know. Perhaps one day...

Yes, vintage pens are hard to beat when looking at performance/$.

Well I would like either vintage or new. I do not see many vintage Conway's for sale in Canada.

Rob Maguire (Plse call me "M or Mags" like my friends do...)I use a Tablet, Apple Pencil and a fountain pen. Targas, Sailor, MB, Visconti, Aurora, vintage Parkers, all wonderful.

No information since several months.
What about the new edition ?

I just received my February issue of PenWorld magazine, and there is a half page full color ad for the new CS 100. Alas, the pen they chose for the ad is all black...

I'll see what I can do. It's an actual magazine so I don't think there is anything online other than a web page perhaps. I'll look at the inside credits, etc. and see if they have any other online presence.

I just checked the Pen World web page and the last issue they list is December for which there is a preview. Looks to be a publication full of ads for very ornate and gaudy pens - but there were a few ads for real pens as well.

I like that distinction: ornate and gaudy pens versus real pens....

I checked the magazine again and cannot find a way to see the ads online, perhaps until the next issue comes out (and hopefully by then the pen will also be out). So the only way I know is either imagine an all black CS 100 with yellow gold trim, nib, etc. but instead of having a wide ring surrounded by two slimmer ones as the cap band, it has three narrower bands instead. Or get ye to a newstand and either buy or browse a copy of the February issue of Pen World.

If I could figure out how to post a photo, I could perhaps just cut-and-paste, but that would probably be breaking some sort of law (copyright, or something, one can only imagine).

I just can't possibly imagine writing with the Solid Gold Mount Vesuvius pen that writes in lava colored ink.

Ahem! Don't make me come in here and do official stuff.

Ahh GP, AFAIK you know your stuff about Law...

Would showing an ad from a magazine on a forum like this consist of a copyright infringement under US law?? I have been wondering, as the ad has the purpose to reach as many people as possible...

You really should get permission & give full attribution. But that's just the US rules. USPTO.gov will get you to the basics of copyright.

OK, thanks.

Each country has it's own version...

AFAIK in our legal system you can show small low grade pics in what clearly is a review.

I am thinking that if one were to ask Mary Burke very nicely, she might post the CS 100 photo from Pen World. Assuming she can get consent, of course from the forum moderator, of course.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
