Mod's in here drooling herself!

I'd go for silver, but concur on the interrupted. You want some negative space or the vertical completes with the curves on the band.

I agree that it needs the full pattern - the sample sent to you looks a little strange. The nice thing about a black background is that silver and gold both go well with it.

Gave in to temptation and inked it - it's great. Even non-believers at work have noticed it and asked what type of pen it is.

The 100 is kind of an iconic pen that links the vintage Conway Stewart line to the modern so I'm glad its back in production. That said, the 100 is fairly small and I prefer larger pens along the lines of the Winston, Nelson or Churchill. I have one Duro and, while its a stunning pen, I rarely ink it.

Here's serial no. 2 of the Lapis. I've filled it with Sheaffer Skrip Washable Purple from a 1950s bottle. The nib is an italic fine, you can see the tiny IF mark on the left side of the nib.

What a beauty, Bill. I envy you. Alas I have no means available at present to get one myself.

I hope it will give you much joy.

are those available as piston fillers or just converters???

Pens are like watches , once you start a collection, you can hardly go back. And pens like all fine luxury items do improve with time

Conway Stewart does not do pistons, currently. (Pity) They had a trapped converter on the Winston, but not a real piston like MB, Pelikan etc.

Thanks, guess I will have to hunt for an older model from 2005 and not sure this newer 100 has even the trapped converter

After having a few prototypes made in Barleycorn etc, we decided to go with the Classic Black with the Simpole Band, just received the Vermeil version and the Silver ones are in production now.

So wish I could afford one of these special pens. My husband works in Sheffield and often pops into the shop to get me ink, etc,and I fame in myself in April. Congratulations kn 100 years of trading, and I will buy a pen 'in spirit'! So beautiful.

Cheers

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
