Franklin Christoph New Model 03?

I was just browsing the Franklin Christoph website and on their nibs page there is a mention that the number 6 nibs will fit the new model 03. Any idea what the new model 03 is? There was a mention last year that FC would do a piston filled pen soon, I wonder if this will be it?

Well, looks like the Model 03 "Iterum" is coming up in September, main production underway. From their FB page -

They've posted that: the 03 is 5.5" capped / 6.75" posted (to nib tip) / .6" at thickest diameter, and .4" at thinnest point of the grip section.

Apparently they sold out of their small production run of the 03 at the DC Pen Show.

Fairly large pen, looks like it has the threads up near the nib, like the Stabilis. No mention of whether or not this is the piston filler.

I saw these Sun PM at the DC show. I remember that the threads are at the end of the section near the nib. They had a cutaway showing the way the nib and section fit into the cap. It's smaller than the 1901, about the size of the standard 40. Sorry, I was a bit brain dead at this point and don't remember the filling system.

Note, do not skip lunch at the DC Pen Show!

Nope, it's not a piston filler - it's a c/c. I was lucky enough to get one in DC and I just love it. It's the same resin as the Stabilis line, very nice in the hand and the stub nib is lovely to write with.

Thanks for the info. Which stub did you get?

Nice looking pen, as are most F-C's, but they lost me with the threaded end of the section...

I believe they do make a piston filler now. Very reminiscent of an M200. I believe they call it the "Piper"

The Piper line of pens is sort of a sub-brand of F-C. And yes the Piper Prism is both a Piston filler and a C/C. But it's not an F-C.

I got the "broad stub" which is not to say that it's really broad... I would actually describe it as a medium stub - just wide enough for a little line variation and displays my new Organics Studio Mark Twain ink nicely. And, the more I write with this pen, the more I like it.

I have a FC 19 with a medium stub which is a bit 'small'. The broad does sound better - which in fact is 1,1 mm so that would suit my writing more. Thanks!

I believe the Prism is a CC only pen with an ink window

Shame. I want would really like to get my first FC pen but I would like it to be a non-CC self filling pen.

I just picked up a smoke 03 at the Dallas Pen show. It is a beautiful pen and a dream to put on paper. If you are on the fence about this one I can tell you that it is fantastic in person.

My second clipless Iterum "03" has just arrived.

This one has a marbled smoke acrylic barrel, section & cap. An engraved maroon inlay accents the top of the cap.

I purchased this model without a nib so that I can install my own unbranded JoWo 18K, 1.1 mm. custom stub. The box threaded cap has some tendency to loosen, but a leather Franklin-Christoph single pen sleeve or one of my Pelikan single pen cases should put a stop to that.

My apologies for resurrecting an old thread, but I didn't quite know where to put these pictures.

Nice! I've been thinking about the 03. I've got the 19 and the 66 is on the way.

How did you get it without a clip? Was that extra? Do they charge less, without a nib?

Thanks,

Kent

Kent, I e-mailed Jim at Franklin-Christoph & asked if they would sell me a mod. "03" without a nib.

The answer: "Yes, it will cost you one nib-set less than the listed price."

I believe the basic stainless JoWo nib-set is 25.00 USD. So the pen was that much "less expensive".

As for the clip,...if it's structurally possible in the cap design, a clip can be left off a model at no charge.

It is not Nakaya envy, but practicality & simplicity that prompted me into going clipless for my Edison Pearl & my two F-C Iterums.

I do not carry pens in pockets, in fact my pens do not leave my house.

To protect the pens I have been using a Pelikan single-pen case for each. The cases protect the pens & prevent them rolling off surfaces.

Thank you for bringing this thread back. I'm considering getting either a FC Model 65 or 66. The more I read about FC the more I like the brand.

I went with the 66 because I already had a 19 and they use the same #6 size nib. The 65 takes a #5. My next pen from them was going to be the 03 but now I think I'll go with the new 20, out next month.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
