Where Can I Find Replacement Nibs And Feeds For A Fountain Pen With Hooded Nib?

Hello FPN,

This is my first post here, although I've been reading the forums since a few weeks.

I have a Montegrappa pen, about which I don't know much: just that it is over 20 years old and used to write heavenly.

I started using it a few weeks ago, when I began liking fountain pens. I have lots of them, but all of them cheap (none from plastic though), except this Montegrappa pen (if someone can identify it I'd be very thankful).

The problem was that, although it wrote better than a phoenix's feather, it was scratched and bitten by me when I was very little, and also had its nib crooked.

How I ruined the nib & feed

Being an idiot, I tried to straighten the nib even if it worked perfectly. After lots of hard work I managed to shatter the nib and break the feed in half.

And now I can't find a replacement nib and feed for it. The rest of the pen is PERFECT, I just need new nib & feed.

So where can I find replacement feed and nib for it?

I tried to use nibs and feeds from other pens, but I have no other pen with hooded nib, and all the nibs are feeds are GIGANTIC compared to what it had, they obviously will never fit.

Is there a universal feed and nib size for fountain pens with hooded nibs? What should I do? I have already punished myself by writing with this thing, but I don't think I can stand it much more, it's not a bad fountain pen but it bears no comparison with the Montegrappa.

Forgot to mention, the first photo is from when the nib was still good... a few days before I broke it into tiny pieces.

Bump for an answer... maybe? Pretty please? It's an awesome pen, I really don't want to just leave it in a drawer.

Ask on the Italian Pen forum

There is not universal fit hooded nib, you need a replacement Montegrappa nib

I suggest contacting European pen doctors (maxpens, fountainbel) as they may have more experience with Italian pens

  • 8 years later...

I have an exp with many knock-off hooded-nib china brand name fountain pen like jinhao 51A, wing sing, hero. Most of them have nib and feed can be swicth with each other, and it a copy of some very famous name like parker 51 ... Then I think they have a Universal size of hooded nib. U can try some of them to sswitch with ur pen. Thay all the small tip and nib that I ever use with all other not hooded or hooded nib I have so I think it can go in easy in the new house. If it too small, u can use some think resistance water to keep them stay title like glu gun, silicon glu...

The knock off china pen is so cheap , too. Just 1-10$ / pen. If u can fix ur pen? Using 1 of them (special jinhao 51A) ll be really nice too.

U even can purchase nib and feed alone too (just 1dola for many nibs) and play with them. There r a lot of "trick" people doing on youtube to custom the nib to suit how u want to write.

Sorry for my bad English.

had the same initial thought @Giang Nguyen but then looked carefully at the original poster's photos and realized that the feed is a totally different style. Too bad as that would've been a easy repair.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
