Some Akkerman Inky Thoughts

I have a few Akkerman inks and when I was searching for a reference form what to buy, this forum was very helpful. I am hoping my small "reviews" may help others. I will do more as I find the time. Here are the first three that were on my desk today. (After I spilt all of No.5 all over my desk. :-( )

The Number 4 on the scans looks Blue but it has a definite shade of purple that is unmistakable in the flesh. The ink in the bottle looks Violet. Its ok for work or school if you want a slightly different "blue"

enjoy!!

Thank you for the review.

Personally I am drawn to #3. It reminds me of the Noodler Bay State Blue available here in the U.S.

Have a good evening.

Great reviews and I have the Akkerman Blue as a permanent fixture in at least one pen. Also, the No 5 Shocking Blue - a real favourite. I'm after the No 24 Blue-Green next.

Thank you both kindly.

Brgmarketing - I have BSB, its a great Dipping ink, and you are right!! Very similar to #3.

The Good Captain, that I would love to see. I had to choose lots of three (I have 9) as the 4th bottle always tips the postage from 20euro to 30euro so the 4th bottle is (IN my head) 10 Euro more then the previous three. :-) If I had the money I would just buy the lot but who has aroudn $600 just for ink?? :-)

Just imagine one of their bottles with a straw covering around the base and part of the neck. Then imagine a deep red-coloured ink in it. Then imagine it about five times the size. What have you got?

CHIANTI!

Cheers!

Shocking Blue is such a favorite at my house that even my husband uses it! He is so square that he will only use black, that is until he got his 149 filled with Shocking Blue, now he is a convert. I love the sheen and the shading, the greenish color, the bottle.

I couldn't agree more - a fabulous colour. Mine's in a 215 at present.

Thanks for sending me back to Lamy turquoise; of which I have a modern and a vintage bottle that has a loading chamber too. I have been away from it for too long. I've gotten much better papers since I put it in Cobweb Corner.

Top of my ink list is a green and a brown Akkerman ink..

When I run out of C d"a Storm, an Akkerman purple seems very close.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
