I remember seeing on Goulet that Caran D'Ache was coming out with new inks, but now there's no mention of them anywhere. What happened?

Now harm meant, but I'd say that in the meantime CdA must have read a word or two about our very negative -- if not at least questionable -- comments about the matter, that have finally decided to fold. At least for the time being...

Obviously I have no idea, either, but I don't think I'd be alone in saying that I haven't been planning to cut them any slack at the price point they were planning to sell at. The inks had better be unique and impressive when they arrive.

I know my id is "mhosea", but you can call me Mike. It's an old Unix thing.

My guess is they re-examined the market and decided it was not a good line to have at this time.

YMMV

It is unwise to stop the previous line as the quality of ink is superb.

Hello everybody,

Yesterday, I saw to the stationery Brachard here in Geneva the new CDA ink. They sell them 29,5 CHF that is ~ 28,4 USD and 35 Euros.

I didn't buy any, because I have enough ink. Maybe later the violet (ultraviolet..what else.....in an ostentatious inkwell) when the CDA storm will be ended.

I know... I know... the rates change every day. But the Euro being the toughest and the Dollar the poorest, if the new thingies come in at 29.5 Francs, that'll mean 23.8 Euros or 31.5 Dollars. Still, whether the "real" price is/was 32 or 40 Bucks a bottle, then the new bottle price isn't much worse off than the old one was. I make it 30-ml bottle => 0.47 Euros/ml against 50-ml bottle => 0.48 Euros/ml.

In that I pay €13 for MB and Edelstein...€10 more it had best match those €49 (German price) Japanese inks.

I do admit in getting C'dA inks after they were discontinued, but before an after market price jump. They were not as expensive as I thought, having mostly heard US folks complain about the price. I think I was paying €11 and postage. .

Well, if that's what you paid for a bottle of Iroshi here in Germany, then you need a new store. Mine cost 24.90 Euros a bottle. Last time was one week ago...

Here is the Ink Nouveau post on the new colors: http://www.inknouveau.com/2013/02/caran-dache-inks-out-with-old-in-with.html

I agree. The color palette seems extremely ordinary and the bottles make me feel seasick.

And the name "Organic Brown" makes me feel another kind of sick!

Now that I look at their list of new ink titles, could this all be some sort of joke/scam/brilliant strategy to get us to re-commit to their older line? I mean, "Organic Brown," "Divine Pink," "Infra Red," "Hypnotic Turquoise"? Really? What marketing mind with any wherewithal would agree to these (in English, anyway)...unless....it is some sort of brilliant reverse strategy?

Taking that weird tilty bottle into account, I think you may be on to something.

Thank you leigh and inkophile.

Thanks for this presentation. I find the bottle volume better, I find the price per ml okay as said above but I still find the bottle design perverse. I mean; if they are by any means interested in offering some sort of practicability, then they should have invented a completely 90° vertically standing bottle with a very wedge-shaped bottom instead.

Perhaps they just wanted to introduce a new slant on things.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
