Do you work for Duke?

She will probably not answer, but yes, she works for Duke.

Then perhaps she should solicit input for a future model as Speedy of TWSBI does or provide feedback as Brian of Edison pens does rather than just trying to be sneaky.

+1, I will never buy a Duke pen just because their employees sneakily use this forum for the sole purpose of advertising.

Don't assume that the people posting are employees doing it of their own choice. Most of the time, it is someone in the sales department being told they have to do things like this.

I own another forum in the firearms community, and I think it is a great benefit to have the powers that be join the forum and communicating. After all, is it against the rules? Beyond that, we are all a dying breed of fountain pen users, community is a must, and having manufacturers and their representatives here is a plus.

Saying you are not going to buy their pen because they came here sneakily? Please. She is not crapping on other pens. Having someone, even a company rep bring attention to a good value of a pen is a great thing. Not everyone can afford a $500 Mont Blanc.

My point is that if she represents herself as what she is and works to engage users constructively she can benefit herself, her company and we, the consumers. This is what other companies do and it works. The sneaky misrepresentation of herself and her motives is not working for Duke.

The problem is she used to make many threads pretending that she was a customer interested in purchasing DUKE pens. As people would reply, she would start to post advertisements for DUKE. I don't not think the op of this thread makes them in her spare time, her employers probably make her do so.

I will not buy a DUKE pen because she, as well as other employees of DUKE, try to deceive the members of the FPN with these advertisements. I have no respect for a company that conducts business this way. Instead of allowing their employees to pretend to be customers, they should purchase premium accounts for their representatives, make it known that they are employed by DUKE, and respectfully advertise for their company.

I have no problem when a representative of a company brings attention to their products. Many members on this forum do this, although they do not do so through deception.

I completely understand that, from the beginning I felt that the op of this thread is not making these threads because she wants to bring attention to her company, but because she is forced to by her employers. I have no respect for and will not buy from a company that conducts business this way.

OK.. that extended questioning I did not see. If she did go about it , multiple threads, yeah, I would not looks greatly on that too. Maybe it is a culture thing?

I really wish more vendors and representatives would come to the forums.

Does this mean that if I start a post singing the praises of a favourite fountain pen manufacturer, I'll be suspected of being a company rep; when actually, all I am is a happy user?

How was it discovered that the OP was a rep? (No, I'm not looking for ways of getting around anything, just curious as to whether she could have been wrongly branded as such.)

BTW, I have a really nice Duke, the colourful one in the Da Vinci series. It isn't always in my rotation. Another Duke, the 209, was a bit disappointing.

I'm curious too, because I thought Duke went out of business in 2011. We bought up a bunch of stock that found its way to California, but I didn't think there were any new models being produced.

There is no doubt a big inventory in China.....

Despite their tarnished reputation when it comes to promoting their product, the pens themselves are really nice and hold their own against other under $25 pens.

I have a couple of the Uranus 508 pens that can be seen on Peyton Street Pens site and I like them. They are slender, light pens but what I like is that if you hold at least an inch above the tip of the nib you are on the barrel and thus avoid the smooth metal section. The 'pebble grain' finish provides some 'gription' that keeps the pen from sliding in the hand. Both of mine went to Pendemonium for CI treatment about 5 or 6 years ago and both still perform flawlessly.

I also have a Complete Esteem but it is not comfortable to me because of the metal section, and it is a fairly heavy pen which is not my preference, but seems to be well made.

I believe the Duke and Uranus pens are good value for the cost.

The hostility demonstrated in this thread was the end of a process. The OP posted an initial thread where she identified herself as a sales rep for Duke. She stated that her management pointed her at the FPN as a place where she could sell a lot of product. In subsequent threads she pretended to not be an employee of Duke but rather a keen fan who wanted us to buy Duke pens. As I stated earlier in this thread, if she had presented herself as a representative of Duke and had attempted to be a link between the company and the public, her reception would have been different. Her failed, repeated, attempts at duplicity caused me to challenge her in this thread. If you are a fan of a pen or brand of pen feel free to sing their praise. I am glad that you enjoy your Duke pens. Please continue to tell us what you like about them. Thanks.

Wow, I was going to comment on a Duke pen I saw but now I'm afraid to ask for opinions.

I think we are all smart enough to make our own judgements on the motives behind the OP's posts.

Hello all. Just bought a Duke pen and its still shipping.

I find it shameful that a representative of Duke would believe that the best way to promote their product is through pretending to be a customer. I never knew this was a problem here (I am new after-all) but this must REALLY be an indication of a company that doesnt have the guts to directly be proud of what they are selling to consumers, and that is always a major mistake. The market will always decide in the end based on their actions, but I wont judge the pens they make based on that.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
