Exciting Developments!

Dearest members of our little Fountain Pen Nut House on the digital prairie,

Announcement

Today, we have the pleasure of being able to announce a new set of member groups, structured as (payable) Premium Accounts, aimed at those running a business, starting one, or on their way to a full business.

Fitting solution

In the past, there never were any possibilities here on FPN to cater for this group of members, and we had all kinds of half-hearted solutions to allow these valued members to contribute to FPN.

However, after lengthy debates and searching for options within the team and the outside world (yes, there is such a thing ;)), we do think we have found a solution which balances the need for "normal" members, and for those more commercially inclined in a way which will allow for optimal and pleasant interactions between both member groups, to the benefit of both.

New forum and rules

In order to make this possible, apart from a few extra member groups (Ruby, Emerald and Diamond), we have also created a new forum, aptly called The Mall, where commercial members may show their wares and services. In addition, we have updated the rules for Classifieds, rules for Market Watch and of course the General Rules and Guidelines, while adding a set of extra rules of engagement for the Premium Accounts.

Benefits to FPN

As to FPN itself, the benefits we strive for are not only enough funding to keep our site in the air, but to grow and nurture FPN further, along the same lines we have always done, namely provide a place for discussion of our shared interests and to help each other with knowledge and the exchange of shared interest items, while maintaining the warm, welcoming, cosy and lively feel of this meeting place where many a new friendship is forged.

Exciting developments - you're not kidding. Went to bed and woke up to a brand new FPN. Awesome job. :roflmho:

I would like to ask clarification on this point if I may. ". . . these Gold Members are limited to a maximum of 3 classifieds per week, and a maximum of 24 classifieds per year, with a maximum of one (1) pen or pen lot, with a single, total, realistic price, per listing (or classified). "

If I wish to sell three pens from my collection that are all different, can they be posted together, with the appropriate photos and information or 1) must I list only one pen per ad? and 2) Does pen lot mean pens of the same brand and/or parts or can a pen lot be considered several pens of different brands?

Sorry if this question seems foolish but I just want to be absolutely clear about any postings I may make in the future in classifieds.

Thanks.

Hey, Okay ~

I might be missing something, rolleyes.gif but the Account Comparison seems to says that Ruby gets 20 classified per month and the quote below says 10 (less than Gold):

"2.b. Ruby Traders: A Ruby Premium Account Holder, a (semi-) professional from the world of fountain pens, MUST post their classifieds in the Ruby category. A Ruby Account Holder is allowed to post a maximum of 10 Classifieds per month, and has several other benefits, in the Classifieds section and other parts of the board."

I like Ruby. Please let me know what the Ruby classified limit is.

Many thanks ~

This a makes sense; it has always irritated me that people were setting up shop and just selling and not contributing intellectually.

  • 4 weeks later...

The changes make sense to me. I've send donations to site if I had good sales - but the last time I did not receive a reply, so I stopped doing that. The fees for active sellers look reasonable and the sliding sale makes good sense. Congratulations on a well thought out scheme.

Is it just me or is the time stamp on this thread wrong? its saying April

This is about some new features to the board before al the recent troubles., so yes, the timestamp April was correct if I remember well.

Congratulations on the changes. They make sense, and they look good. It'll take a liitle adjustment, but that's OK,

What if the Hokey Pokey really is what it's all about?

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
