Inspector Montalbanos Pen

Michael Andersson

Hi!

I hope that somebody in here knows what pen Inspector Montalbano uses in the TV series. I guess it´s an italian pen...

The TV series is my favourite, and it would be nice to know pen he uses, and possibly own one.

Cheers,

Michael

Ha! That is a mystery to be solved. Can't wait to see what the answer will be. :^)

The pen does appear from time to time , but not in every episode.

I have always hoped it would be an old Aurora 88.

I'm looking out for one myself with the silver coloured cap.

I've never seen the show, but have read several of the books and can't recall a fountain pen being mentioned. Looking forward to the answer myself.

Great series. Bring back Montalbano, BBC4!

Thing is, I don't think I've ever seen him use an fp. Plenty of pencils, sometimes a ballpoint in his office and apartment. I think Montalbano is a bit of a sensualist, his days are filled with excellent food and exotic women B)

If material things were more his cup of tea, I think he'd have replaced that missing hub cap on his clapped-out wee Tipo a long time ago!

I´m sure I´ve seen a black fountain pen in some of the first episodes. I will keep my eyes open when continuing watching through them all.

However, a Swedish collector friend, Pär Strand, found this information: http://www.donnamoderna.com/tempo-libero/asta-vasco-rossi-teomondo-scrofalo/foto-4

Montalbano uses a fountain pen?! I can't believe I never spotted this before! I'll have to dig out my box set soon and try to spot it.

I would imagine though that Montalbano wouldn't be able to go past the Visconti HS. A pen made from the lava of Mt Etna? Surely that pen would be a no brainer for any true Sicilian...

It's quite nice out here in the sunshine...

I´m sure you will enjoy it! I´m sure I´ve seen the fountain pen in one or two episodes from the first season.

talk about an impulse buy. I just purchased season one from reading the posts. Thanks for the idea.

If the pen of Montalbano is like his car...

However, I never noticed it.

P.S. I didn't imagine it was so famous abroad. I'm curious to know how the characters speak, in English: because in Italian, sometimes it's difficult to catch the meaning, due to the Sicilian dialect.

On BBC4, it was never dubbed, always subtitled. In the parts where I imagine it must have been tricky, like poor harrassed Caterella's mixed up utterances, the joke still made sense in English.

Here in the SF Bay Area the show, from MHz networks, is shown on one of our PBS stations. It is in Italian with English subtitles.

Caterella is such a keystone cop that it's amazing that they made him their computer expert.

Think the writers were very clever about purposely showing sides to Catarella that you would not have expected...ie, they set up the viewers for this...

As for subtitles, I find the translations pretty good overall...

Great show...

Oh, I do think that the writers are making him more interesting than just a keystone cop. Just to me, all the jokes about how he comes into a room, or is always getting names to very very wrong is funny in not a good way though.

I should also note that they air the episodes in a strange order... last week Mimi was just getting married and this week Bebe is pregnant.

Now, what was the pen?

Heck, he's still wearing his father's watch, so what's the watch?

By a lucky chance, yesterday they re-run "La gita a Tindari", and guess what I found?

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
