So, I coerced my kid into filling up her Pelikanos with Akkerman ink and doing some quick reviews.....really, it was "home work"..... practicing penmanship is important!

I like shading ink, and am in my green period....how ever with that big bottle I'll be there for the next ten years.

I do need that bottle...so I'll have to find what ink I want before I drive up and pick up a bottle of ink and a Broodje.

I think the Akkerman inks are overall nice shaders.

I sometimes think that the Akkermans are by no means exact replicas of Diamines but rather more a slight "improvement -- if I may say so -- inasmuch as that the flow (surfactant, detergent etc) is better, and the shading (likely the dye concentration) too. At least my own writing and paper chromatographa tells me so.

Maybe but there are gorgeous inks under the label of Diamine as well as Akkerman.

For me there is (almost) no doubt that the Akkerman inks are produced from Diamine.

At least Majestic Blue and Shocking Blue are (in my eyes) identical.

I´ve compared the two inks earlier within another thread and uploaded a picture on that:

Majestic Blue versus Shocking Blue

Beside the Shocking Blue I don´t think there are exact replicas of other Diamine inks.

At least I didn´t found one.

I think they are individual custom made inks like the Racing Green for missing pen.

I think the Akkerman inks are overall nice shaders.

I don´t think that this can be generalized.

Look for example at the Oranje Boven, it is a very bright highlighter orange (I like it very much), but it has no noticeable shading, not even in a flex pen.

You are right about the orange - but the browns do shade as do the greens. No shading on China Town red.

What things made you think that this ink doesn't work with some pens?

what is you that you make you think that doesn't work with some pens

I think this one works with each of the pens I've tried, but I don't think it's a color I would use at school or work as my primary color.

This looks like an incredible green -- unique too. I'm really into greens right now and would love to buy a bottle of this.

But how to get this in the USA without losing a limb? I know there was a group buy, but I missed that boat (wasn't on my radar then...)

Very nice color  thanks for sharing

Pens are like watches , once you start a collection, you can hardly go back. And pens like all fine luxury items do improve with time

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
