Hi Fellas,

I have read in various places (including FPN) that people are interested in the Camlin SD but are unable to find it easily. The cheapest one I found online was for INR 899 (plus shipping of course). I was trying to procure a couple from a wholesaler but the minimum order is 10 pens, so I figured why not get everyone in on this. :eureka:

If sufficient people show interest, I will do a bulk buy from the wholesaler. He has tentatively indicated that some stock is available and that the price would be INR 700 per pen (about US$ 13 / EUR 10).

I plan to sell them at Cost PLUS Actual Shipping Cost PLUS a small handling/convenience fee per pen (see price update above).

Please send me a PM or post here if you are interested. I will ship to ALL COUNTRIES.

An excellent review of the Camlin SD was given by Hari here

Add a Blue one for me (second choice would be maroon, with black my last choice).

If we can choose nib sizes I would prefer a Fine or Extra-Fine. thumbup.gif

PM me with details for payment.

Awesome! I'll add you to the list.

cjabbot is also up by one pen. So that makes a total of 12 now.

We now have orders for 12 pens, so that is some good news!

PRICE UPDATE:

First of all, a big thank you to Aramchek in getting the ball rolling by sending me payment for his 3 pens yesterday (only pen cost as shipping cost would be updated later).

I had promised to do this at actual cost, and there is no actual buffer into which I can absorb any loss. I made two mistakes while telling you that the pen cost would be US$ 13

1. I used the wrong exchange rate. After Aramchek's remittance yesterday, I noted that Paypal gave me an exchange rate which actually translates US$ 13 into INR 675 (approx 50 cents short of the actual cost of the pen).

2. I also forgot about paypal fees.

Long story short, we will have to add $2 to the pen cost. That is the bad news (is it, really?)

Now for the good news:

The cost of shipping will not be US$ 20 to 25 as thought earlier. Our dear Hari317 has opened my eyes *sniff*

I have done some research on registered international post offered by the Indian Postal Department. Expect a major drop in shipping costs. I will reserve final comment pending an actual verification at the post office sometime this week.

So the actual pen acquisition cost has gone up slightly (actual cost in Indian Rupees remains same, there's only a dollar conversion issue described above plus paypal fees). However, the drop in the effective purchase price per pen (including shipping) for everyone will more than make up for this.

Thank you for your support!

Congratulations, this seems to go very nicely. I especially hope you will let us know about the postal cost. Yet another demonstration of how much FPN is a community.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
