Invitation To Show Off Your Stuff...

MusinkMan

Recommended Posts

Well, I've only been on the FPN for a few months (but it has become a big part of my days). So being new and hoping to NOT sound presumptuous, I wanted to invite all you brothers and sisters of pen-hood to show off examples of your stuff here on this thread.

That's right ladies and gentlemen; take a photo, scan, or whatever to post up a pic of your work.

Now before I go any further (and it's my thread so I'm entitled to a couple rules...LOL!!!), this is intended to be a fun thread. It's NOT a contest, and it's NOT intended to be for only the elite masters on here; Although it's truly hoped that the elite writers/artists of this site (and you know who you are) will post up fantastic samples to wow us all. But it's not "just for the greats"...It's for us all.

First and foremost, there will be no bashing, insulting, humiliating, or ridiculing anyone's contribution. If you don't have something kind or helpful to say, then just be silent please.

Secondly, all advice and "kind" critiques/suggestions are to be expected. This will be a learning experience and with all the kind and experienced members on this site, everyone should expect some help or advice. This is a good thing, not an insulting thing.

Thirdly...the work that you post up must be your own. No posting files or pics of other calligraphers'/artists' work, not even if you give credit to them. This post is about seeing our own stuff, not examples that we admire.

Fourth (and last)...post up anything (that you executed) pen related. Calligraphy poems. Scripture verses. Proverbs. Alphabet exemplars. Pen artwork. Illuminations. Flourishes. Cartoons. Drawings, etc. Colors will be fantastic. Black and white will be fantastic. Whatever...just so it is original and is your own work. Can be something that you've already done and have in a drawer, or you can "get serious" and write up something just for this thread".

No limit to how many items you post...do as many as you like.

The goal is to see as many members' work as possible and to enjoy. Like our own little gallery, but it's just us. Everyone contribute please. Doesn't matter if you are not accomplished (like me, I'm certainly NOT)...just do the best you can. Hopefully this will motivate us all to give a little extra effort and will help us to improve what we have.

I ask the mods to delete any post that is insulting, degrading, or otherwise hurtful to the person posting.

I've been thinking about posting this up for a while, and I hope that lots of you participate. I'm going to get started on a couple of ideas myself...I have nothing prepared myself. So.......who will start us off....

come on, don't be shy. We all WANT to see! Who will be first...........??????????????????????

I am nowhere as good as these guys...

But since we are invited

Written with the Blue morning wancher pen, and a home-stubbed White feather-404 pen(the red one), and photographed on my bag.

I just now wrote this out on cheap photocopier paper, on a flat desk, w/out guidelines, w/ a straight holder and iron gall ink (Diamine registrars ink) to see where I was at, at this point in time, with my penmanship (this is handwriting rather than a formal round hand).

I'm not yet up to the standards which 13 year old boys could attain in the 1870s, but I am improving. :)

I highly recommend Diamine registrars ink by the way, it gives good hairlines even on not very good paper.

I am going to LOVE this thread!

I've already posted my various "Variations," so I won't do that here. I'll draw ("draw") something else... :-D

MusinkMan, take a look at plistumi's interpretation of The Devil's Dictionary: one of my favorite threads.

Hi Ethernautrix...thanks for saying that. I have BEEN wanting to get something like this started, because I know there is freakish talent lurking around here. And not just the calligraphers, but the artists, the cool "regular" handwriting folks, the avant garde experimentals. I wanted this to be a thread where EVERYBODY could contribute something without fear of some SOB making fun of us or trying to humiliate us.

This forum is very cool because we are all here for one reason...because we love inking up a piece of paper with a beloved pen. So with that, I will go back to viewing the interesting and enjoyable gallery from "us".

PS...I did look at the Devil's Dictionary...Oh my. That is about the coolest thing ever.

And...YOU HAVE to put something up here. I'm already catching sh** about not putting up anything, so if I gotta do it, YOU gotta do it too. :-)

Seriously, thanks for the words. Stay tuned...this gonna be one helluva fun thread.

Columba Livia Nothing wrong with that! Don't be down on yourself...that's a lot better than what I can do.

This is so inspiring (although humbling). LOL! But that's ok...we'll all just do the best we can. One idea I have, is that we can do a repeat of this in about 6 months, and we'll all compare our "new work" with the things we put up here. That will be fun, yes?

MR. CALIKEN:

KEN, I would be remiss if I did not mention you specifically and give you special thanks for participating here. Most everyone on this site is aware of your prowess and your accomplishments. Very much an honor to have you join in with us and just have some fun. It is my hope that you enjoy this thread sir, and also my hope that you continue to wow us with more of your astounding examples.

Reminder to all: There is no limit to "how many" of your works you post in this thread. It's not a one-shot deal...post away. Anyone who does not enjoy seeing other members' works is probably in the wrong website. :roflmho:

Ooh, I like this thread already. This was done recently in response to a request on a subreddit to which I subscribe. I consider it one of the best things I've done since I started calligraphy almost 4 months ago (I cannot believe it's been 4 months already!).

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
