I saw the Phoenix Pen line for the first time at this years DC show. They were the most beautiful work I had ever seen. They are a Russian Company and have had two of their pens nominated by Pen World for a Readers Choice Award: Dragon Theme and Art Pen categories in their February 2013 edition. Page 17 has their ad and lists only four authorized retailers P.W.Ackkerman, USA: Airline International, France: Point Plume and Belgium: Sakura Fountain Pen Gallery. Their email is: WWW.PHOENIXLACQUERART.COM and INFO@PHOENIXLACQUERART.COM/ +31 (0) 6 54 97 24 88.

Pw Akkerman in the Hague has quite some pens on display. Phoenix has it's own gallery in Amsterdam city center. Pricing is eur 5000 and up. I'm sure when you contact them they'd be happy to answer any questions.

In addition, the pens are now manufactured by Visconti (older models may still have been produced elsewhere) don't remember what filling mechanism they use, as it would be unlikely that I'd fill this pen if I ever bought one. I have seen quite some pens of them and I admire their pieces of art.

If anybody is looking for the story about Phoenix Lacquer Art and the Russian Lacquer art please take a look at my (Belgian) website www.sakurafountainpengallery.com. 3 years ago I was working for a high end penshop when I met by accident some pens from Kynsey in Spain. So I went to Madrid and had a meeting with Antonio Sanchez and as soon as I saw the magnificent " El Greco" I knew I wanted to study this new pièces of art. Almost at the same time Inna Kaufman of the Phoenix Lacquer art contacted me and I decided to quit my job and start my own company. I have been studying these pens for quite some time now and I must say it is a magnificent world but also very intriguing and closed world.

This (bleep) from the Big Cats series and executed on a Danitrio Mikado flat top eye dropper. Today PLA is using Visconti bodies with piston filler.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
