Filcao Effedue

Recommended Posts

Hi, I've searched through quite a bit of threads that mention Filcao and have found nary a mention of the Effedue. I love this pen, but I have one issue- I need a refill for the RB end. Trouble is, I don't know what that would be, exactly. The smallest RB/BP refill is a mini D1, which is about 2.6" long (other Filcao pens of the same overall length as the Effedue that are also RBs use these). However, the refill for the Effedue is at most 1.6" long, almost an entire inch shorter.

I've emailed the founder of Filcao and his response was essentially that I could buy a refill from Filcao directly, at a minimum cost of something like 15€, or slightly more than $20- that's if the refill is free as "spare parts". To say the least, I am not willing to spend more than $20 for a RB/BP refill.

Does anyone have any info on where to obtain the proper size refill? Or what it may be called?

There has been some discussion about refilling a refill using FP ink. If the refill has a plastic cap at the end, you may be able to remove, refill, and replace the cap using a sealer (e.g., silicone, rubber cement, etc). Post a picture. Maybe we can help.

As far as I can tell, this is a standard ball point refill- like you would find in any old Bic. I'll post a picture as soon as I get a chance to, later today.

Ya know, I still have a sterling ballpoint-only Filcao Effedue (I guess it's an Effeuno?). I recall seeing it in a box recently. Maybe I can take a picture of it later and upload... (the pen is tarnished, but you're looking for the refill, so...)... maybe that'll help.

I think you may have the Mercury or 2703, ethernautrix, those came as an either/or. The Effedue only comes as both.

Here's that pic I promised:

For reference and/or clarity, the refill is in the middle of the ruler, it measures just about1 1/3". A standard BP refill is at the top and the "collar" for the Effedue is at the bottom.

So, anyone have any ideas?

Those B3 refills that atypical mentioned seem like they would be the closest fit. I am reasonable sure though that the refill measures more like 34 mm, as is shown against th ruler in my pic above. But 9 mm is a really small amount of overage. Even the tip looks almost the same as the Effedue tip. Am I just seeing things that way b/c I want to, or does that also come across to ya'll the same way?

D'oh! Just realized where the other 9 mm is- the actual tip. I'd only been measuring the refill "tube" itself, since I figured I'd have to keep that metal tip part. It's exactly 43 mm! I think you may have just found my replacements, atypical!

  • 1 year later...

Although I am coming in late to this thread, did anyone find the ballpoint refill for the EFFEDUE fountain pen/ballpoint combo pen? Thanks,

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
