New Fountain Pens From Staedtler

Recommended Posts

Staedtler seems to be releasing a few new fountain pens at this year's paperworld, including some limited editions, like the 'Bavaria'.

Some pictures can be seen at Initium and J.S. Staedtler

They do look more than interesting. I wonder how expensive they will be...

Their pen of the season seems to aim at a similar kind of customer as Graf von Faber-Castell's pen of the year.

looks pretty nice but are the high end models only to be filled with convertors or are they piston filled?

I had no idea Staedtler made fountain pens. Do they make anything in the middle ground between the learner pen and these higher end models?

I wouldn't be surprised if only the high end models are piston fillers, just like Graf von Faber-Castell.

I did ask Staedtler for more information. If they reply (big if) I'll let you know, but I guess they will officially introduce them at the paperworld trade fair and there will be more information available after the paperworld.

Some of the models look as if they might be in competition with the Faber-Castell Ambition series and might be similarly priced, i.e. between learner pen and high end pen.

Dear me!!! Those look stunning!!! Where do I buy these??

As they are probably just being introduced at the paper world trade fair it might take a while before they are available in shops...

I hope Staedtler will release the suggested retail prices soon.

It's been a long time since Staedtler made pens.

I've missed a few at the flea market...having nail nibs. Don't remember which era I was looking at.

Hi,

In the past, Staedtler fountain pens were bought in from other companies, but recently, they have been releasing pens that I believe are of their own production.

Dillon

Stolen: Aurora Optima Demonstrator Red ends Medium nib. Serial number 1216 and Aurora 98 Cartridge/Converter Black bark finish (Archivi Storici) with gold cap. Reward if found. Please contact me if you have seen these pens.

Please send vial orders and other messages to fpninkvials funny-round-mark-thing gmail strange-mark-thing com. My shop is open once again if you need help with your pen.

I think Staedtler have a bit of a battle ahead of them to catch up with the other Germans pen co.'s and to alter their current image for the sake of their luxury line.

(I will however be watching on with mild interest)

I think the same, they will not reach the status very soon, that they need to sell pens in this priceclass. In Germany they are known for their pencils and school-equipment... only the pen-geeks know about their (vintage) FPs.

I'm sure they are technically brilliant. However, aesthetically they simply do not appeal to me. The look of a fountain pen is part of the whole game for me. If it looks nice and it writes well then I'm willing to forgive some foibles like minor leaks or a loose clip. Mind you, I do tend to prefer a slim bodied pen akin to the Sheaffer Targa (I own one that is very similar but do not know it's actual designated model name). I do have a Waterman Expert and as nice a pen as it is I find that a touch too 'fat'. Bizarrely I am male and I have rather large hands...

Take care all.

I'm not a big fan of the matte metal...Does the J.S. Staedtler line have any non-LE models?

The pen I write with, is the pen I use to sign my name.

Yes, the "Initium" line (350€€) and the "Princeps" (1000€€) are non LE.

The "Albertus Durerus Noricus" is a LE (541 pcs, 2000€€) and the "Bavaria", too (48pcs, 18000€€)

I think the limitation at least for the "Bavaria" is more of a joke... and even the Duerer Pen will last a while in stock, due to their image in the pen-world and the prices they have.

They also want to produce a „Pen of the Season”, that means 4 different pens each year in limited quantities, that is like an overkill, at least for me!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
