Omas Le Maserati

I just bought an Omas Maserati and it has a fine nib.

I normally would not buy a LE pen, but it is an Omas and sterling silver.

My intent was to buy a paragon, so much for good intentions. But they made me an offer I could not refuse, so I bought the sportscar.

It has not arrived yet, but I can't wait to get it into my hands. I think Omas does a great job with their designs, they are real artists when it comes taking classic forms and making the modern. ( the art deco is just incredible ).

Sounds like an exciting pen, airborne18th. Congrats  Those impossible to refuse offers are always the ones that get you! Looking forward to the pics.

Most of my purchases are "impossible to refuse". Part of my collecting strategy: take advantage of great deals, and end of year is when those opportunties are easy to find.

This must have been a bad year for fountain pen retailers because I have easily found some real steals, and for great pens. I bought several special editions in the last month at well over 40% off. They were on my want to have, but would never pay that much for list.

I define a deal as 10-25% off, and a steal at 35% and above.

Nice pen, isn't it? I was seriously tempted.

At that price that is not a deal, not a steal, it's almost swindling...

Congratulations airborne18th

The Omas Maserati is deserving of the associated name and praise. Uncompromising quality.

Limited to only 1200 pens, it is surprising that any are available. Must have been costly original retail(2008), between $2000 and $2850 on eBay. A striking pen in solid silver.

I have seen them on ebay as low as 1400 for the fountain, and about 1000 for the ballpoint. So they are selling pretty cheap, probably to just get rid of whatever is left laying around.

  • 4 months later...

I bought my first Omas Maserati in Bologna a few years ago, a year later followed by the Maser rollerball. Although I don't use them frequently, i couldn't resist on buying a second example of this FP ( - 50% sale ). Never seen a FP that matches a car brand like the Omas Maserati LE.

congrats on the purchase

  • 1 year later...

I've just bought an Omas Maserati FP in F nib on impulse from a Spanish seller, for the 'bargain' price of $1250.

What is the pen like to write with? How long is it? Weight, heft?

I've also noticed that the piston knob runs loose after you turn it a few times - is this normal? All the other Omas piston fillers I've used have a resistance point in the turns.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
