Hello everybody!

I am searching for fountain pen stores in Kolkata (a place in India). Actually I want to buy some original Chinese fountain pens in reasonable price! Please help me find some stores if you know any of them in Kolkata.

Also if you can, suggest me some reliable websites!

I confess I do not know any Chinese Pen shops in India...

I think I am right in saying most of us here buy our Chinese pens from ebay.com....look for the ones with the best and most ratings....

Here is a useful thread to give you some ideas...most of the pen and supplier recommendations are in the first 15 or so pages..

@ 51ISH ..... Thank you for the suggestion friend! :)

But, is "ebay" a reliable website?

How long does they take for delivering items?

Well, there is a good question my friend

Here is a site I have not used... because... it is in USA....and here in the UK we have to pay customs and post and all sorts of extra charges to buy stuff from the USA...but they are a good company and they keep Chinese pens....

http://www.isellpens.com/

Here are some suppliers I have ordered from on ebay that have been good experiences

http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Chinese-Office-Supplies-Store?_rdc=1

http://stores.ebay.co.uk/epochmakingshop?_rdc=1

http://stores.ebay.co.uk/YCPENS?_rdc=1

http://stores.ebay.co.uk/YesPen?_rdc=1

http://stores.ebay.co.uk/boli0000-JEWELRY?_rdc=1

Edit to add:

Sorry, forgot to say ...delivery from China to the UK is usually about 2-3 weeks ...I have had a pen from Japan in less than a week...which is better than some UK based suppliers :(

@ 51ISH ........ Thank you for providing me the above information my friend. I think, in India, we will also have to pay customs charges on the foreign items that are bought from different foreign websites. Also, are these websites completely reliable?

I have bought two Wing Sung pens from a wall shop in Kolkata. I don't know whether they are genuine or not. That's why I have posted this topic. Can you help me out by telling me whether those Wing Sung pens that I have bought are genuine or fake, if I upload the pictures?

I again thank you for providing me the above information!

Buy from eBay. You are not going to find any Chinese Pen shops in India. Most of us are familiar with shops in the USA and UK, but those shops generally dont stock Chinese pens. Except for the links provided by iamachum.

You best bet if you want to avoid customs and other charges, is to go and look at the stalls in Chowringee and on College Street.

@Wolverine1.....

Thank you very much for the information my friend!

I have bought two Wing Sung pens from a stall at Chowringhee. But I am not sure whether those two are genuine or not!

I have also enquired in some stores in College Street for Chinese pens. But they told me that they don't sell Chinese pens!

How come do you know about Chowringhee and College Street? :)

Well, I am a NRI, now living in the USA. I grew up in Assam, and used to visit Kolkata with my parents every year during the Winter vacation. We have some relatives in Kolkata and Jadavpur.

How about you? Are you a resident of Kolkata? There are a few FPN members from Kolkata , plus there are a couple of FPN members who are NRIs who grew up in Kolkata.

I'm surprised to see that no one has mentioned Taobao yet. It's like eBay but from China, so I guess there will be at least a store with chinese fountain pens.

I'm not sure I could tell the difference.....but someone here is sure to be able to I guess...

All I can honestly say about the websites I have listed is....I have found them all to be a pleasure to deal with, offer good prices and I have not received a 'dud' pen... yet.... In fact some of the sites I have ordered from more than once already....

I don't know, it may vary from store to store. If you decide to buy from Taobao, you better find a agent and ask if they can find the pens you want. (someone who does the shopping process for you, with a small fee)

Cheaper Chinese pens are not sold with a box - it seems they are typically shipped to distributers in basic paper boxes holding a dozen or so pens and the pens sold loose.

That's OK ....

You can't write with the box .... :roflmho: :roflmho: :roflmho:

YC Pens sells with the box....or without the box ....whichever you prefer....cheaper without the box due to shipping....

You can put a none genuine pen in a box.....it is still none genuine....a box don't prove zip....especially if you don't know what the box should look like in the first place ....well, at least I don't... although if I order a Picasso Pen I would pay the extra shipping....I like the look of their boxes....I trust and hope it would be genuine :clap1:

First of all, the website is a Chinese website, which is not creating a problem because I have translated the pages in English! But still, some of the information are written in Chinese! :P

But, where from do I find an agent? Does taobao.com provides agents for customer support, or do I have to find an agent myself?! :)

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
