  1. 1. If there was an organized chatroom registered especially for FP people, would you participate?

The idea of creating a pen posse for those who do not have a group in their area sounded great, but how does one accomplish that??

Virtually of course. A chatroom has been established for the use of fountain pen enthusiasts world-wide, on the EUIRC network.

We discuss things "fountain pen", we discuss the weather, we discuss all kinds of things...just as you might find attending an actual pen posse meeting. We have the ability to show and tell via media hosting websites and pictures. Be ware... it is addictive!

That is something I have been wondering about! It would be so much better for newer people like myself to be able to talk directly to people who really know the ropes and have a lot of wisdom to share! Even if there is a local pen posse type of group, I would still think talking to others in real time about FPs and getting to know a lot of the other members here at FPN would be great! Count me in!

Great idea!

I really think we need video. Google+ will do ten people at a time at a Google hangout, and you'll be able to see everyone's ink and pens. Here is the "plug-in" to enable that:

Stevesurf, In an effort to respect the current existence of FP related Google Circles we opted for a venue that would accomodate more of us at one time.... not to mention the accomodation of those of us who woud be joining the chat during the "wee hours" in Europe (our early evening) and they would have the option of wearing their 'jammies. And.... as a courtesy... yall wouldnt have to actually look at my mug after , or during a twleve hour work day! lol. There is, however, an avenue for the chatroom mentioned to host video feed via a specialized chatclient (that I happen to use) and if interested , I could assist you with it. Thanks for taking the time to respond!

Sailor Kenshin....A PM with details will to you momentarily! But to answer your questions...."Where is it?" It is hosted online through an independant network...we are still beta testing two networks as gateways. At this moment it is hosted on EUIRC on all of their servers, the channel name is #virtualpenposse . We are looking forward to you joining our small but rapidly growing community!

I've been there already and had a great conversion with other FPN members! I just missed someone a little while ago b/c I was afk. I think this is a great idea!

Thanks folks, that was a fun time and it looks like I have more ink to experience! Thanks to Trillium for organizing. I travel so much and keep missing the pen meet ups, so this is great. I'll get better access to my scans next time :)

It is a fun alternate. Shame we cannot show pictures or give demos through that medium though.

It was actually refreshing to do the chat only thing...I forgot what it was like after so much Skype and iChat!

I am also interested, though a bit time challenged much of the time! I would participate when I was able to though.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
