Pilot Iroshizuku Inks At Staples

Just a note, that if your buying one perhaps as a gift for somebody, think twice, as I ordered one and it's now showed up twice in a tattered creased box with split ends, dog ears, no little booklet in there, etc. I've ordered these from Jet and Engeika and they were in excellent condition. For myself, I don't care but this was a gift and not really presentable.

I second this the one and only Iroshizuku ink I received from Staples only made it to me intact by a miracle. They had used an un-padded envelope and the box was destroyed to the point that the ink bottle was loose in the bag.

Whaaaaat! I had no idea they even carried this. Anyone know if they have them in store?

Online only, but you can have them shipped to a store near you.

Full priced. My box was beat up as well. Before Thanksgiving Staples had a bundle with a Pilot Metropolitan which made it worth the effort.

Got mine in perfect condition. The only thing was that the bottle of ink came in a box the size of 2-3 reams of letter paper. It was the only item in the box with the exception of 4 or 5 of those cushiony bags of air . It obviously got bounced around but was still unmarred when received. I got it with the Metropolitan deal over the last holiday weekend. Ended up getting the Yama Budo ink and the "Met" for a total of $31.00+ with free shipping. The extra $100+ was for tax in Massachusetts.

It really seemed to be a waste of packaging and shipping space to have a small box of ink inside a larger box that could have accommodated about 210 boxes of that size.

P.S. Love the ink and the Pen (swapped in a 78G fine).

  • 1 year later...

I didn't realize Staples sold some of the Iroshizuku inks until just now (just happened to see it while looking at the Pilot Metropolitan sale). Any ideas why each bottle has a different price, ranging from $25-35?

I don't think I will buy any from Staples after reading the comments here about their shipping prowness, but I am curious about these price differentials.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
