I really liked this ink, it is a strange but lovely colour that is very pleasant to use with the right paper! As you can see pen & paper combinations make a significant difference!

I also see this ink as being similar to Rohrer & Klinger Alt Goldgrun, Wagner may have more yellow but it's hard to be certain as both inks vary quite a bit between different nibs and papers.

I agree with you, that ink came to mind with my first few lines - I only have a written sample of R&KA-G to compare, and Wagner is a little more yellow in my pen/paper combinations.

I love the colour of this ink. It would be a great shame of it were only available as part of a boxed set.

Hello Mallymal1, thank you for your kind comments. I love this colour too. I hope it is available one day as a single bottle, but it does look very sexy as part of the pack, certainly in the pictures!

To my eyes it is much more similar to De Atramentis Gold than R&K Alt Goldgrün. Love the color though.

Ooo...very tempted! I don't use my Alt Goldgrun nearly as enough because it's a dry ink...(in my opinion), so if this one is wetter, I may need to get a bottle. Ah, maybe just get the entire Music Collection...they've got most of my favorite colors covered in there already. :thumbup:

I can't make up my mind on this color. My first impression was that it's futt bugly, but I just can't stop myself from looking at it again and again.

 

My parents used to have an electric can opener that was a suspiciously similar color… :hmm1:

Aha... I first saw this color on your comparison chart in the Handel thread, & was instantly smitten. :wub: Now I'm not so sure (fickle ink ho that I am :embarrassed_smile: ) but it's very intriguing how much difference the pen makes! You wouldn't happen to have some Herbin Vert Olive handy to compare with, would you?

 

What I said in the other thread stands: if anybody buys the set & doesn't want the Wagner, let me know! :bunny01:

I imagine the output on the monitor may affect one's perception.Yes, the pen makes a huge difference as you can see by the shading in the second review using a dip nib. I am sorry I don't have Vert Olive to compare for you. I saw this ink initially and thought :blink:... But I couldn't help staring at it, it really is gorgeous and I feel very blessed to have tried it!

What makes you unsure after seeing the actual review?

 

It looks a little too yellow in your fp writing sample & a little too muddy in the dip pen sample... but I can also see that it's one of those hard-to-scan colors that must be seen in real life. I accept no substitutions!!! Pining away for it now... :crybaby:

 

What if I send you a sample of Herbin Vert Olive & you send me a sample of Wagner, & we both post comparison scans?! :eureka:

Now there's an offer I can't refuse! :thumbup: The postage (ok that's a whole other forum's worth..) will probably be more than a bottle but why not! Ok, it absolutely is not muddy in any shape or form. It reminds me of the Art Deco era, that kind of olive green on the yellow side. Yes on glossy paper I thought it's a little yellow too, but on more absorbent paper it seems fine.

Pens are like watches , once you start a collection, you can hardly go back. And pens like all fine luxury items do improve with time

Finally, as promised, here is a comparison w/ Herbin Vert Olive, which I am relieved that I still like better. Although the Wagner is pretty awesome. Check out that killer shading! :thumbup:

 

This also happens to be a demonstration of the rapturous wonders of Tomoe River & getting what you pay for :cloud9: On my monitor the Tomoe R. scan is more accurate than the Staples scan. Compared to Vert Olive, the Wagner has a kind of golden tone, which seems to get a bit lost in the Staples scan. Although IRL the goldness is actually less pronounced on the Staples than on the Tomoe R. :rolleyes:

 

Also, to be most accurate I must tell you that I wrote the Vert Olive samples a few days ago & they have been sitting on my work table, exposed to light. I did the Wagner samples just now. Furthermore, although I used the same pen, the Wagner is probably showing up a bit wetter because I had just filled the pen, hence extra ink in the feed, blah blah (god, pen geeks!) :rolleyes:

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature.
