Hi all,

A newbie here. I've acquired a Mont Blanc 146 a 1980's model I think; marked W-GERMANY (no serial or PIX) single-tone 14K nib. Unfortunately, the piston end is broken. The black piston end which has a plastic "thread" had somehow snapped off. I'm not sure if it's just the piston end that is broken or worse. The fountain pen itself is in excellent condition.

I'm just after some advice really i.e. if I were to take it to a Montblanc boutique would they attempt a repair? and roughly what would it cost (I'm in the UK if that helps)?

Thanks in advance.

Bringing it to a boutique for factory repair should be possible. Ask for an estimate, and if it concerns you, ask them to contact you with the details of the repair before they start work.

Montblanc may do the repair under their standard service charge which was £65 last time I had one done in 2011. My 162 came back virtually new with 75% + of the pen replaced.

Thanks Pen Nut, sounds like a good price to me and thanks for the nib advice Mags, will track the nib as it's in pristine condition the tip is "perfect" too. Looks to me like the pen was rarely used.

One more question has anyone been able to just post the pen to a service centre? as all the boutiques in the UK are around the London area. It would be easiest for me to have it posted for repair.

Thanks all again.
