Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Attached a "capped" and a "posted" picture of a prototype bulkfiller in the famous Tibaldi celluloid I've just finished.

Metal furniture and nib are all titanium

My camera being defect, the pictures were taken with my mobile, .. so not as good..

Your comments , suggestions and critique are most welcome !

Francis

PS : Just used the camera of my neighbor, hope these pictures are better

Of Course it is very very nice, but it is too close in shape to the 146, it reminds me of the 146 in fact.

Dear Hari,

I did not even look at any other pen shape, just created the shape around the mechanical inyards and this is the result...

Off course there is also the flattop Tibaldi celluloid version on which I will post soon...

Attractive pen. The nib doesnt quite hit the mark with me. Any chance of a 'shiny' option ?

Very handsome, classic looking pen.....with some interesting details, like the double black rings(?) near the barrel end....and the Tibaldi celluloid is very nice too...having had the Tibaldi in that color before....

So.....

That is gorgeous Francis! It is a wonderful combination of a classic style, unique material and very high-tech innards. Kudos on another winner.

The Tibaldi celluloid is one of my favourites. I like the celluloid bulk filler, but I think I prefere the Benjamin Graham (I'm a fan of the portal ink windows, though I suspect they're difficult to make). How do the two compare in size and especially the section diameter?

With the celluloid the O-rings (I assume?) near the end of the barrel are far more obvious that than they were on either the black delrin prototype or the flat top demonstrator. I think they detract from the pen's smooth lines, would it be possible to countersink them into the celluloid?.

Looking at some pictures of the bulkfiller in operation, I'm guessing those O-rings are there to provide a better grip when operating the filler? If so would it be possible to replace them with either a bulge in the celluloid or a metal ring with some texture for gripping?

I think the O rings are there to facilitate a tight grip on the cap while it is posted.

Right Hari,

The Orings have in fact a triple function:

- Ensuring a good grip on the filling knob

- Creating a cylindrical posting pretension in the cap

- Covering the transversal set screw which secures the syringe rod in the filling knob.

Note :The wall thickness of the cap does not allow to install the Orings in the cap

Francis, if you would put a gold nib on it, say a 0.8 mm cursive italic, 10 dgrs left oblique, and take that with you to Tilburg next month I am sure we'll find an arrangement so I can take it off your hands.... :puddle: :cloud9: :bunny01: :notworthy1:

Dear Francis,

My, you're working a lot these days ! I'm impressed by the fine result. This ink window looks very nice, and the celluloid is very elegant. The cap's top definitely gives a lot of cachet to the ensemble.

Just two remarks : I'm not a big fan of the two o-rings on an ovoid shape. I understand the technical reasons but I think it really breaks the line, in terms of style. Of course, some could object it's a differentiating element, but still. On the FPR version, it was very well integrated, but here it looks a bit awkward, in my humble opinion.

Also, the clip looks too MB-ish, it is not bearing your trade well enough. A faceted clip (a bit like on the Dupont Défi), with the bottom (last 3-4 mms) coloured in black and white (or black with a very dense doting and white with just extruding and polishing the material), or even with a capital C engraved on it would be less neutral.

Sorry about my very below average drawing skills ;)

In all seriousness, just tell me how much and where to send the money.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
