I Just Stabbed My Finger!

ERdept

Recommended Posts

I cannot believe it.

Just re-capped my Lamy at work and punctured the tip of my left index finger. Brown colored fluid exudes from me. Never knew my bood and blue/black ink make brownish fluid. .

Anyway, wondered if any of you have done this?

Was under stress situation at my work, which is almost daily (Emergency room). I guess the best place to have an accident.

It hurts worse with a B nib!

I don't think I've actually drawn blood this way, but yes, there have been a couple of minor incidents.

Just as long as you didn't damage the nib. ;)

I have the tip of a pencil lead embedded in my left palm...Visible beneath the skin. It's been there since about 1970.

So, yeah, I feel your pain.

Thankfully it was a nib and not another sharp!

I have a piece in my forearm, just forward of my elbow. It's been there since 1962.

Yes, I have stabbed my self with a fountain pen. The cap was difficult to remove, so I used a bit more pressure in tugging. Cap came off, nib went into my hand (not finger). Hurt like the blazes, but all was well and the nib never felt a thing.

I've done this, no nibs were damaged, my finger, however didn't fare so well.

I thought the #1 thumb tattoo machine was the Pilot VP...

Ah yes, the self-tattoo initiation ritual. It's only a question of when, not if.

You didn't damage the nib, did you ?

What color ink were you using ? Is it going to leave a permanent

mark ? I think that is called a "tattoo".

Of all the self-inflicted injuries of my lifetime, I have not done

this. However, I recently started servicing my own pens. I have

had some close calls pulling and inserting nibs. Will join you

soon, I think. :ltcapd:

You are lucky it was a Lamy nib which are pretty stiff and difficult to damage.

I look at some of my Japanese fine nibs and think jeez you could kill someone with that...

Yup, been there and done that, as they say. Odd thing is that I did it uncapping the pen. It was on tight and I jerked a bit when the cap finally came off. I overcompensated thinking I was going to hit my monitor and jerked back then stabbed my index finger. It hurt my pride more than my finger. :(

Maybe a VP or Fermio should be in your future, or one of the Monteverde retractible inkballs.

I've got a pencil lead in my left forearm from 1974 or there abouts. I was stabbed by a class mate.

Hey, I have one of these too! Mine has been in my thigh since about 1981 (had a pencil in my jumper pocket and got up from the table too quickly).

I've recently stabbed myself with a Waterman XF nib, but nothing that drew blood. Spot of Racing Green is still visible, however.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
