Something not too dark, but elegant red. Kind of like the blood of my enemy, you know? :)

Diamine Red Dragon. Dark, but not as dark as, say, Oxblood. And a lovely flowing ink.

Wow, there's a lot of feathering today. I haven't noticed that much before. I'll look for new notebooks for when these are used up.

Actually, there was a third pen as well. Another Nemosine Singularity, in purple, with a fine nib. Not counting that though, as it's not for me. It's a gift for my wife :)

My only vintage pen that works. It was a flea market find years ago. It is the standard size, and I think it is early production based on the construction of the cap. (I'm no expert though.) A few micro dings in the gold filled cap and the usual brassing on the lever from posting. It writes well though!

* Reading it back I should really have said "almost as fine as my Pilot fine nibs" as there is a slight difference on this Rhodia 80gm paper but none in my Stillman & Birn sketchbook.



I would also like to note that the only other pen I own that feels as solid as The Taranis is my Waterman Carene and that's praise indeed.

Uncle Red:

 

There wasn't really any tipping, just a steel blob on the end. It was cut REALLY off center to boot, making one side a giant ball and the other side basically a spear lol. I can fix most things but not a crooked slit. It's nice and useable now! The chrome cap makes it snazzy.

You know, I wonder if that TWSBI nib with the two slots cut down the sides of the tines (image above) will hold up? Having some general experience with metals and fatique cracking, that first slot toward the nib tip is directly in line with the breather hole, and a crack could easily enough form at the end of the slot and travel right to the breather hole allowing one entire tine to break off. I have seen something similar happen in other metal items. It may not be an issue at all, but if I were crafting such a nib, I would not put that slot directly in line with the breather hole. I guess, looking at the photo above again, the slot is angled slightly behind the breather hole.

 

OK, never mind.

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

      Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy.       I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature.
