Got some new stuff yesterday. A 580 using the blood of my enemies... well, it's just Jentl Apricot. I also got a new TWSBI notebook.

Hope this is the right place to show off the first new fountain pens I have bought in years, just received by courier mere moments ago - I guess it is the right place but apologies if not.

Some of you may be aware I have been waiting on these for over a week (and I still have 2/3 weeks for the others I ordered that are coming in from China!). I'm posting these here before I have even set them up so the pictures are really 'un-boxing shots' I suppose.

 

I'm going to try out 'The Cranes' later and will post an example in my abysmal handwriting!

Anyway, on with the show ...

First up is "Classical Chinese dragons playing with the pearl". Ostentatious & fabulous! The 'Chinese Dragons' is definitely Jinhao as you can see from the box (and what a great box too!) though I'm not certain about the other one but I suspect Jinhao as well. Enjoy!

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

      Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy.       I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off.
