I haven't put one up here for a little while, but I just got this one and I love it. If only it were a bit bigger. I think I got a pretty good deal on it. The seller didn't say it was flex, but I was hoping it was by the looks and I wasn't disappointed.

Not the best picture in the world, but it will give you an idea as to the flexibility of the nib and I think you can kind of see the chasing.

That's awesome! I have given up on buying used pens, I just don't understand them well enough to know when I'm getting a good buy. I also can't fix my own pens. I'm the kind of FP user that needs a 6 month maintenance program built into the price. :)

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

I pretty much taught myself with information I found here. But I don't do much more than put new sacs in. I've been pretty lucky that most pens I have gotten off ebay have been in good enough condition that I didn't have to do much of anything to them. I LOVE old pens!

Ok, my pens might not be as awesome as most in this thread, but hey, I'm a n00b and I enjoy them... :)

Lots of people say those Jinhao pens are very nice. There's nothing uncool about a current pen - I'm using a dark purple Metropolitan - and if it makes you happy, it's a win.

There's also positive things to be said about a pen you can easily replace if something bad happens. I wouldn't want to carry many of these rare and gorgeous pens around in my pocket. The Jinhao - no worries at all.

Don't let the vintage and blingy pens let you think your pen is any less wonderful than it is. Enjoy the great things you've got. Admire the shiny if you like, but don't let it affect your opinion of your own stuff.

That's a cool Kaweco, Uncle Red. I'm still keeping my eyes open for one locally to try out. I'm at the stage where I'm always torn between saving and spending, so a pen really has to reach out and grab me.

I really love my red Kaweco Ice Sport. It writes very smoothly and with the screw cap I have no concerns with throwing it into my pant pocket, if I don't have a pocket on my shirt. :)

Amber, the scary part about Mr. Testis isn't the dangly bits... It's that his owner is not but 6 years old! She hasn't noticed that part of the anatomy, but, suffice it to say, that pen doesn't go to school with her!

Be forewarned... I will eye-bang the bejeezus out of your pens...

Today was my first time in a long while using just one FP all day (well, up until an hour ago, which I picked up a Safari that has a specific purpose and no longer leaves the apartment):

Sorry, no action shots - all the writing done today was either grading, class notes, or homework. Not very exciting. :-P

Yoga:

Is that one of the new-fangled all metal Lamy 2000s? If so, how do u like it? I tried holding one of the older makrolon (sp?) versions last weekend at my LPS, and the dang thing was so slippery I didn't even bother to dip the nib and try it.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
