Don't Just Tell Us About The Pen You're Using, *show* Us!

Wow, lots of neat pens here. I'm back, hopefully without the interruption of further/future ... excitement.

Today's pens are my Waterman CF, X-fine nib with Cosmic Cobalt and my Parker Royal Challenger, 14k No. 46 nib with Bad Black Moccasin; today's pipe is a walnut-finish Stanwell (Registered) in the pickaxe shape (01) with John B. Hayes' Balkan blend.

mhphoto: Love the look of that Retro 51. I did not know the OHTO Dude could be made to squeeze that line variation out. Is it a special nib?

dcpritch: That jade Duofold looks really cool.

Ptrero: The Invincia nib is coated. Not sure if it is lacquer or not.

Dillon those are fantastic pens! What a great variety and in marvelous condition. Having a few pens with nibs shaped by your skilled hand, I can only imagine what you may have done with these. I hope you'll post some others as you get the opportunity.

Here's a vintage Italian celluloid pen I restored today, a wartime Aurora Olo Lusso button filler with a fantastic steel nib:

Dcpritch, that is a very nice Olo. I didn't really post any of my vintage Italian pens this time, but I assure you, everything in the above post writes really well. I always enjoy using them.

Akstorm, a very elegant looking pen you have there, and one I've not seen or heard of before now. Very nice.

Ptero, the Aurora has one of the most amazing nibs I've ever used. It flexes quite easily, springs back immediately, and the flow keeps up with flex so long as the pace is even and moderate.

Cheers, DAVID

Hi akstorm, your pen reminds me of a more subdued Hero pen I have.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
