You should definitely email FC. Their customer service is pretty top notch in my experience, and I'm sure they'll take care of it.

Yes, I know it is, and I like and recommend FC warmly. And the model 66 is lovely.

But there is the hassle of going back of forth to the US vs John who is 50 miles down the road. :)

Not the worst pen I have ever had from a manufacturer, but easily in the top-5 of my hall of shame. And it is a shame, for if the (Michael Masuyama) nib wasn't skipping like a schoolgirl on speed, and if it worked at all with any other ink than F-C's own, it would be just right for me. (Sighs.)

The Walnut ink looks great and shades nicely!

Please don't tell me you are having problems because I just ordered the stabilis 65...I had them send it to Pendleton for an oblique left stride...still waiting for it in the mail....I'm worried...what ink are you using in the FC..love the color but I understand it's a cartridge?

Saskia : Your Visconti Skeleton as well as the Wall Street blue - attractive. I highly rate Visconti pens. Their HS is a nice pen, look as well as functioning. I had a Wall Street regular in the past which I used to like much. But subsequently traded for an Aida.

Keep it ( WS LE blue) and enjoy.

Ptero : That Pelican blue a looker. Do you post it ? I have got a Pel 625 sterling cap blue body. I love it. But the size is a bit short and posting bothers me.

F-C makes some of the best pens. I wouldn't worry. Some problem with mine, but that happens with everyone and Scott at F-C has been very helpful.

First ink was Piper blue (aka Blue 72) from a cartridge; second was J Herbin 1670 Bleu Ocean from bottle.

Now, what ink for the first use? Any suggestions? This is the medium nib, and I am guessing that Carbon Black is the obvious choice. Any not-so-obvious ideas?

As it is a tiger, and tigers are normally yellowish, how about Herbin Ambre de Birmanie or something similar?

Good thought. Perhaps Diamine Blaze Orange in the spirit of Tiger, tiger, burning bright? Not sure how well a (Japanese) medium will show the ink, though.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
