Travelling Recipe Book

Recommended Posts

I have been to about 40 countries so far and the best experience always was: eat the local food. All kinds of food were there: traditional, experimental, basic, refined, complex, simple - you name it. It went from beetroot burgers to fried scorpions, from ice-cheese-cake to greasy barbecues, from raw fish to cream cakes. Just lovely!

Now I have the idea of a recipe book with favorite recipes from people all around.

If at least 16 people here care to take part with one or more of their favorite recipes (maybe not too fancy or exotic - they should be doable), I will send around a book for everyone to write them down. Afterwards I will try and cook them all, provide some pictures of my version together with my comments and a scan of the whole book so that everyone else (who has been taken part, of course) can have the chance to try each others favorite food, too. I will provide the book and the first recipes, then I will send it to someone else and the book travels on and on...

Sounds delicious? Sign up!

Great idea. I'd like to paticipate, but because I have recently suffered a stroke, my handwriting is rather bad- I still cant write well. Therefore, I will write out a recipie, but can I mail it off to you, Michael? If you think it is presentable, we can think about me writing in the book. Let me know.

Okay, I'll play. I have a recipe my grandfather came up with in mind for this.

You are great! slowly, but steadily we are getting there.

Chefs of the world, join in!

I sincerely hope that you are becoming better with time! It's horrible to hear about the stroke, just today one of my colleagues had one (she's just mid 30's).

Of course you can mail it to me, but I can give you my answer already right away: It will be presentable, if you want to participate - don't worry. This project is not about great art or penmanship (even if we don't mind seeing that), it's about taking part in some delicious adventure. Your entry will be worth very much and exactly because you still want to contribute it will be something very special. It will be an entry with a story behind it. Thank you for participating!!

Greetings,

Michael

Count me in, as well.

Would you prefer baking recipes or cooking ones? The trouble with baking is that it's frequently as much about technique as it is ingredients.

I'd love to do this too!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
