Masculine Pens

Soer

Recommended Posts

Masculine traits: dark color, matte, large/thick, modern, bold patterns, heavy, angular

Feminine traits: narrow/thin, light/pastel color, shiny, small, fine details/patterns, rounded

Not at all my cup of tea!

My vote for gent's pen goes to the Sheaffer Connaisseur.

There are a fair number of penmaker-carmaker collaborations which I would call macho.

I think the new TWSBI Micarta has a "masculine" feel to it -- rugged and industrial. It is the only pen I own that I think would look even better scratched and dinged up. In fact, it is the only pen I don't think I'd worry about dropping (capped of course... don't want to damage the nib!).

Does it have a broad or a fine nib? Just wondering...

The Lamy 2000 is a pen that is a modern classic. You can not go wrong with this pen.

That said, I find myself using my black and rhodium Aurora Talentum more and more. It is a large pen that feels "just right".

Wonder what Freud would say about that?!?

Do or do not, there is no try. . .

I think men can use almost any kind of pen with a few exceptions: Nurse pens, pink pens, really tiny, thin pens. Women, on the other hand would not look ridiculous using any kind of pen, I think.

This distinction is paralleled in Western clothing. Women can wear suits or pants, men cannot (successfully) wear dresses or skirts (yeah, I know, you're dying to mention kilts - my dad was from Glasgow, never put on a kilt in his life).

I agree.

Also, kilts definitely don't look feminine in authentic oontext. Nobody's going to snicker at someone with a 8 pound razor blade.

Masculine: TWSBI Micarta. They use Micarta for knife handles. And I'm not talking about kitchen knives.

I agree! I saw my cousin's Micarta, and it looks just like a cigar. It definitely looks BOSS.

I am still waiting for that kindly donor to come along and lay a Hello Kitty pen and a bottle of Levenger Pinkly, or its current equivalent, on me. When that happens I will use it proudly and publicly.

BTW, I am testing Parker Falcons for a review and I would class these as "manly" pens, despite their diminutive dimensions. They have "poke you in the eye" talon like, almost aggressive, appearance.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
