Masculine Pens

This is my Fujisan fountain pen from Japan, also a Regal from Taiwan. I'm planning two miniature Samurai sheaths for them. Also thinking of buying two more of each, making flights and have a game of darts!

But those are such pretty pens! Darts should be made out of fake or dud Hero pens

This might be a bit different. Libelle Nature Series Mother of Pearl. It's in storage because it kept drying out (??), was uncomfortable to hold, and weighed a ton.

Despite the name and appearance at a distance, you can see the brass in the barrel, the nib is a nail, and it could probably survive a nuclear explosion. It's for men who are comfortable with their sexuality and the awful section.

Yes, you're quite right, rest assured I was only kidding. I think you'll agree that those two pens can't get more masculine than that. Both are superb writers.

Most of those black cigar-shaped pens come off as quite masculine to me. I wouldn't see myself buying a pen like that, I'm not sure if it's because I think they're too plain for my taste or because I think they're masculine. Hmm.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned this:

My Juliet.

Now I want a Hello Kitty pen.

Real men wear pink kilts and a "Hello Kitty" sporran.

Oh yes, tell me about it. Is this the Sailor one? I love that pen. If I had one I would use it at the lodge to sign the minutes while dressed in my finest tartan (sadly not pink).

One of my daily carry pens, the Rotring Newton is pretty masculine in the mechanistic efficiency sense:

I am a women but seem to own more than my share of "masuline" pens. I love my MB 149, Pelikan M1000 and Sheaffer Legacy. I like the feel of substantial pens and not slender "ladylike" pens.

Any fountain pen I write with immediately turns into a "masculine" pen.

A Hello Kitty?,.....well, maybe not.

"79spitfire", I must be showing my age.

I've seen the acronym FTW (on FPN before), but not in relation with anything I've written.

The little "picture thingy" after it, I believe means something positive, but the "FTW" is a mystery.

God bless Brian Goulet, to have a list of common abbreviations on a new section of his web- site.

Must check there is it is listed.

Cheers: tinta

I checked there (Goulet's) & FTW was not in there. Must not be an FP related term.

A masculine design that springs to mind is the Lamy 2000 but in general I associate masculinity with big size (that's my wife's fault; she started it).

roflmho.gifI actually burst out laughing when I read this as it caught me by surprise.

But I make that association too, a larger pen is more masculine while smaller pens are more feminine. My votes are for the MB 149, the Visconti Homo Sapiens (though if it was in a smaller size, then I'd say it can be neutral), and the Pelikan 1000.

I no longer own any fountain pens... Now they own me.

I think FTW stands for "For the Win"...I've seen it all over the Internet and thought it said something else a lot less appropriate lol...found out by finally looking it up on urban dictionary. It does bear a good meaning, though.

I think one of the least masculine pens was a Montblanc princess something pen a sales associate was once showing me. It was like in memory or honor of a princess in England I think. It's relatively new. It comes with a pink jewel to represent a pink rose, and while I was initially impressed by the appearance of the pen, I really felt it was more appropriate for a woman. I think the sales rep caught on to how I was steering away from that pen over and over and finally started showing me some other models that were more like the 149. I do think that the sterling silver version is not that masculine either, though the only people I know who own it are men.

I have that Harley pen in a Rollerball. Uncomfortable writer but I got sucked in to the whole Harley marketing machine years ago.

Masculine? I think the Edison Hudson...

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
